with ease and rhythm surprising in
one so young.
A number of visitors were pres
ent from surrounding towns, includ
ing Ccn-.radcs of the Civil and
Spanish-American wars.
Plans have been made to make
the first meeting of the month a
social one to begin at 10:30 o'clock
in the morning with a lunch at noon
and a social in the afternoon. The
sccend meeting will be business
only. Meetings are held the sec
ond and fourth Thursdays of each
month.

AT ALBANY SUNDAY
Albany The Salem choir of the
First Presbyterian church, com
posed of 30 voices was in Albany
Sunday and repeated Its Christmas
cantata music at the First Metho
dist church. William Wright, di
rector of the choir is also assistant
vocal instructor at Oregon Agricul
tural college.
The Albany Methodist chcir plans
to go to Salem at a later date and
present a sacred concert. It was an
nounced here.

SNOW IS REPORTED
Lyons The woodpiles re suffer
ing nround this vicinity, the tem
perature dropped to eight above Fri
day morning. The ground Is still
covered with snow. The sawmills as
yet are running, but with quite a
little damage to water pipes, seven
inches of snow is reported at the
Cochran H inkle mill with about two
inches at th? C.rabtree mill.

1350 making It now $230 per year.
Thia was done to eliminate the

Mrs. Ed Albright, pioneer residents
of this district, was completely de
stroyed by fire shortly after 2 o'
clock Monday morning. The blaze
is believed to have started from a
defective flrepmce flue.
Loss is estimated around $6000
partially covered by Insurance. Only
few articles of furniture and
clothing were saved. Both the
Sccxts Mills and the Silverton fire
departments were called.
Mr. and Mrs. Albright are making
tliiir home temporarily with a son.
Wallace Albright, who lives near
Marquam. Another son, Rex Al
bright, is an attorney In Silverton.
Tlio Al-irights live about a mile
from Marquam.

ing in the parlors cf the Christian
church. During the social hour mu

Rev. E. P. Runnells, vicar of the
Episcopal church of McMinnville
gave a short address and L. Gardner
of Juneau. Alaska, another guest at
this time made a short talk. Dinner
was served by the women of the
church. There was a good attendance.

community club enjoyed an excep
tionally fine timc at "Its monthly
program and social meeting held at
the club house Friday evening.
The program consisted of a steel
guitar solo by Waldo Rue; piano
solo, by Gene RusseU; violin duet.

Following the program the mrm-'
bers spent the remainder of the
evening in dancing. Music -was
furnished by Gene Russ?.l at the
piano; Ralph Egan at the drums,-
and Harry Richss and Frank Egan,
viohnsts. Lunch was served at a
late hour, following which more
dancing was enjoyed for a shoit
time.
The club holds its mjetins on j
the second Friday of each month
and these meetings are open only
to club members and specially ui
v.tcd guests. A social will be given
at the club house on Friday eve
ning, January 24, by th3 Wiilard
women's club, which, will be open
to thp public.

ing Monday evening. Th4 charter

Scouts will put on various demon
strations of Scout handicraft and
also will present a number of skits.

their regular monthly social meet
ing at the grange hall Friday eve

en and gave a negro minstrel. Those
