HUBBARD GIVEN
CLUB ATTENTION
Hubbard The Christmas meeting
of the Hubbesd Women's club was
featured by a three act Christmas
p!ay and a tree with presents for
each member. The play was given
by Mrs. Sadie Scholl, Mrs. Hettie
Earl, Mrs. Blanche Brown, Mrs.
Margaret McMannis, Mrs. Sadie
Rich, Mrs. Ella Stauffer, Mrs. Anna
Staulfer, Mrs. Louise Grimps, Mrs.
Lorena Duncan. Gifts were exchang
ed by the members and Mrs. Ida
Garland was Santa Claus. The
mee'.trig was held at the home of
Mrs. Maud Bidgood, who was assist
ed by Mrs. Vera Boje as joint hos
tess. Roll call was responded to by
"earliest recollections of Christmas"
which brought out many interesting
anecdotes. The Cliristmas story was
given by Mrs. Lois Miller and
Christmas carols were sung by a
group of children with Mrs. Kath
leen Beckman at the piano.
Miss Benita Stroud of the Marlon
county health clinic was presented
by the president, Mre. Neva McKen
zie. Mlis Stroud spoke of the bene
ficial results obtained by serving
hot noon lunches at school and cit
ed other places where the Women's
clubs were taking charge of such
school lunches. The president ap
pointed Mrs. Ellen Carl, Mrs. Etliel
Johnson, and Mrs. Sadie Rich to
serve as a committee to see what
might be done In the Hubbard
school.
The president announced that the
next meeting would be held at the
horce of Mrs. Coble de Lespinasse,
who would be assisted by Mrs, Loi6
Miller in entertaining.

Merle Stewart. Mrs. Ella Stauffer,
Mrs. Anna Stautter. Mrs. Cora

BAND INSTRUMENTS
OFFERED MUSICIANS
Siiverton The school board has
purchased three alto mellophones to
oe used both for the school band
and orchestra.
The 4-L band committee has
loaned to the school bass horns and
other instruments that belonged to
the one-time 4-L band.
There 4re now 54 members In thj
school band and 33 in the school
orchestra ranging from the Blade
pupils to tlie seniors.

Master William Sclicll was In
stalled at the same meeting and the
remainder 01 the officers will be
installed Thursday evening, Decem
ber 26 when the appointive offices
will be fined. Frank Hole is the
retiring master.

Independence Mrs. O. O. Mc-
Connell was hostess to the Booster
club Wednesday at her home on
South Main street with a Christ
mas party.
A large Christmas tree centered
the dining room, being decorated
with streamers of tinsel and Christ
mas colors, and upon it were hung
gifts in exchange for the members.
A pound snower was aiso given
during the evening by the members

ing for their homes, each was pre

Irvine in January.

Siiverton The Siiverton Teach
ers' association held a meeting In
the Eueene Field auditorium. The
business meeting was conducted by
Miss Whittaker, the association
president.
Dr. McCannel spoke on two phas
es of his trip to Europe: glimpses
of the trip, and misinformation re
garding travel In Europe. Each.
teacher donated a small sum to the
Siiverton community chest. -Later,
various committees .pre
sented short skits. Refreshments
were served.

PLANNED AT SHAW
SOLEMN MIDNIGHT
MASS IS OFFERED
Siiverton Christmas day services
at St. Paul's church, Siiverton, will
be held at 12 o'clock. Solemn mid
night mass, begin niing with "Holy
Night" siing by he choir accom
panied by Instrumental music fur
nished by the pupils of the music
school. Sr. Olivette at the organ.
The subject for the sermon is
"Behold I bring you good tidings
of great joy, that shall be to all
the people." At the offertory
"Artestle Fidelis" by Fr. Koenen
will be sung.
The second mass will be at 8
o'clock. During this mass the chil
dren's choir will sing.
HIGH GRADES GIVEN
FOR SCIO STUDENTS
Sclo Report cards for the second
six weeks were given out this week.
Ardyth Shelton received the honor
card for the highest grade average
in the senior cla6s, Gloria Wesely for
the junior class, Marjorie Hoppe for
the sophc-.ore class, and Lorena
Thurstcn, lor the freshman class.
Shaw The members of the Wo.
men's Comnnjilty club of Shaw met
at the home of Mrs. Edward Gilbert
Wednesday afternoon.
Plans were completed for the
Christmas program to be given in
the Shaw hall Thursday after
New Years. The Cub is also pre
paring a box for the Salvation Ar
my to be distributed among me poor
at Christmas time.
A lunch was served by Mrs. Gil

LADIES' NIGHT HELD
BY STAYTON LIONS
Stayton The Stayton Lions den
had a gala night of their history
at the Gem cafe in Stayton Wed
nesday evening, when about 25
members and their ladies gathered
at a Christmas dinner party, grow
ing out of the recent membership
and attendance contest. The two
losing teams entertained the win
ning team and their ladies.
The manager of the Gem cafe,
Jesse Hendershott, served the gath
ering a turkey dinner. Caps, ser
pentines and other novelties added
to the festivities. The party last
ed from 7 o'clock until 10:30, which
was conducted by the famous
Santa Claus who distributed gifts
to the members and guests.
GYMNASIUM CLASS
HOLDS XMAS PARTY
Stayton The ladles' gymnasium
class party was a very pleasant af
fair. Music, cooversatkti and a
lunch was much enjoyed, while gifts
were exchanged. Mrs. Lizzie Crab
tree of Kingston was dressed as
Santa Claus. The club house was
decorated under the direction of
Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Tate.

HAS CHRISTMAS
TREE, PROGRAM
Independence Cloverleaf Rcbek-
ali chapter, held its annual Christ
mas tree Tuesday evening in the
I. O. O. P. hall at which time gilts
were exchanged. A Santa Claus dis
tributed the gifts and the children
were all remembered.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed W under were
presented with a waffle iron. a gift
from the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs
for many services, rendered 111 a
musical way.
A program by the children was
given as follows: Recitation, Betty
Crossley; song, Barbara Ruef ; violin
duet, Evelyn Davis and Marian
Ruef; recitations by Marian Travis
and Betty Lou Autrobus; piano solo,
Frances Hanna; recitation, Roy
Hanna.
Mrs. Ellen Davis and Mrs. J: S.
Robbie were the program committee.
