Senior Bonfire
Touched Off By
Amity Juniors
Amity The Juniors of Amity
high school were jubilant when tLey
succeeded in lighting the bonfire- of
the seniors at the annual combat
of the painting of the grand stand,
but in spite of all ttjeir efforts they
were unable to prevent the seniors
irora painting the year or their
graduation on the grandstand.
This is an annual event carried
down from year to year since the
building of the high school.
Tt.e seniors celebrated their rlc
tory by a marshmallow roast around
the bonfira. Sentinels were placed
on guard until daybreak to prevent
the juniors from erasing their work.
After 2 o'clock in the morning all
was quiet on the school grounds.
WAGONDA CLUB
GIVES RELIEF
TO NEEDY ONES
Waconda Mrs. Charles M. Hall
and Mrs. Henry C. Stafford were
joint hostesses Wednesday after
noon when they entertained the
Waconda Community club and five
.special guests at the Stafford home
near waconda.
After the business session one
comfort was tied. Others In the
HTonp were occupied with' needle
wot lc on Christmas articles. Mrs.
Robert Cole has charge of the
Christmas cheer committee and
many pretty and useful articles
have been made under her direc
tion. A report of another -destitute
family in the community was made
and a committee was appointed to
investigate and give aid.
Several articles were given for the
charity chest. A distribution of the
chest is to be made at Christmas
time.
The hostesses were assisted at the
tea hour by Mrs. Eugene W. Man
ning, Mrs. Richard Tuve and Mrs
Frank Peltoc
Special guests for- the- afternoon

died in Haley, Idaho and had been

Jefferson Thieves attempted to
force the lock on the front door of
the Associated store some time
Thursday night. Eeither the lock
proved too much for them or they
were frightened away. Night prowl
ers have been numerous in town of
late, which shows the need of a
night watchman. It la understood
that the city council is paying the
salary for a watchman but as yet,
there is no one on duty at night.
