A. was held at the Aunuvllle high school Fri day Uh treat auccesa. At noon dinner waa served and various en tertainment offered throughout the afternoon. The popular girl contest was won by Lucille Ruettners; second, Daisy day, November 2a, for the celebra tion throughout Oregon. EXPOSITION FOR BOYSPLANNED If the Interest displayed Friday night by some 25 or 30 men of Sa lem when they gathered to discuss plans. Is any indication of what is to be expetced later on, the Boys' Achievement exposition, scheduled for late December or early Janu ary, will be one of the finest of Its character ever held here, persons attending the session stated Satur day. The committeemen gathered at the request of Paul Wallace, gen eral chairman of the organization. The exposition which la being sponsored by the Y. M .C. A., Boy Scouts, civic clubs and 4-H clubs will be held for the purpose of displaying results of boys' activi ties In nearly every line, from stamp collections to exhibits of model airplanes. Where the show will be held and the dates for the attraction will be decided at an early meeting of the committeemen. GRANT SCHOOL PUPILS FEATURE LINENPROJECT Grant school opened the obser vance or national education week by the Sal&n schools with an open house Tuesday evening, when a number of Interested patrons called between 7:30 and 9 o'clock to meet the teachers and see the sample of work submitted by the school chil dren. Wednesday the entire classes of the school were open to visitors and a number of patrons called throughout the day. One of the most interesting fea tures of the school was the linen project which was carried out by pupils in the 4A and 5B classes un der the direction of their teacher, Miss Jennie Williams. A most ex cellent display of flax, from the seed to the finished linen fabric. was shown by the class, together with a number of Interesting pic tures showing different phases of tne industry. A book of linen pro ducts Is now being made. The 4A class also arranged a "Dutch table" showing a Netherlands scene as a demonstration of geography work. The second grade, with Miss Anna Jensen as teacher, displayed a farn project which was started during state fair week. This ac tivity was carried Into each school week with variations from week to week. The Grant school has subscribed for 40 copies of "My Weekly Read er" as a means of promoting inter est in general reading. The copies will be used from the second to the i sixth grades, each room keeping the copies two days before passing them to the next erarie. Stokes and Taylor, from the state fire marshall's office visited here on Thursday and were guests ui rire i;niei wood. 67 SCHOOLS IN COUNTY VISITED County Superintendent Julker son has Just completed her first round of the courty schools which she inspects, having covered 67 schools in visitation since school opening this fall. Fifty other schools are visited by Rural Super visor Rox and he will linlsh hU inspections next Monday or Tues day. Mrs. Fulkerson expects to start on her second round next week, al though inspection then will be cur tailed somewhat by extra office work Including work on her budget and also lining up those districts which haven't levied a special tax. Under the law the country court may levy a tax up to 10 mills for such districts as fail to levy one themselves. Both Mrs. Fulkerson and Super visor Fox have also done consid erable extra work In connection with their visits tn explaining and organizing club work to school pu pils. Dublin. LINCOLN HAS OPEN HOUSE Open house at Lincoln school Friday evening brought out a heavy array of parents to examine the work of the children and note their progress through the grades and the teachers had a display which was of greatest interest. Miss Dorothy Taylor, who is principal at McKinley school. Is also prin cipal at Lincoln and the work of preparation was done under her direction. In the first grade room In charge of Mrs. Dorothy Daugher ty a display of work done by little hands kept a crowd in that room during the evening. The room was a study In Indian lore and In dians and three small Indians were on hand to greet the visitors.
