evening with a delightful bridge
party In the David Wright home on
Stewart street.
Nine tables ot bridge were In play
throughout the evening In the liv
ing rooms of the Wright home
which were attractively-decorated
with basket of sommer flowers.
Miss Yvonne Smith won the the
first prize for high score honors and
Miss Yvonne Smith won the
ond award. Miss McDougall receiv
ed a guest prize. Refreshments were
served later in the evening with
Mrs. Wright. Mrs. Adam Engel. Mrs
E. M. Hoffnell and M. E. Johnson
assisting the hostesses.

riage of Miss Emma Burrell and
Ross A. Harris, son of Mr. and Mrs.
R. A. Harris of Salem, which took
place Saturday evening at the home
of the bride in Tacoma, Washing
ton. Mr. Harris' sistar, Mrs. David
C. Ellis, and Boyd Filler and Don
ald Apperson, all of Salem, mo
tored north for the wedding.
Mrs. Harris is employed with the
Pacific Telephone and Telegraph
company In Olympla and Mr. Har
ris is connected with the Western

To Meet Saturday
Mrs, E. C. Apperson, state regent
of the Daughters of the American
Revolution, has returned to her
home In McMinnville after attend
ing the national D. A. R. congress
held recently in Washington, D. C,
and visiting relatives and friends In
the south and east. She has called
a state board meeting for Satur
day, June 2tith, to be held at the
Chamber of Commerce in McMinn
ville. Among the local music teachers
who returned from Portland after
attending the state convention, were
Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Thomas, Mrs.
Walter A. Denton and Mrs. Lena
Waters.
Mrs. Hary Rowe and Miss Kath
eryn Rowe returned Saturday from
Portland where they were the guests
of Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Parker in
Irvington for a week. Mrs. Parker
entertained Friday evening with a
dinner dance In Miss Rowe's honor.

To Present Pupils
West Salem Miss Ruth Bedford
will present her piano pupils in a
series of recitals this week. On
Monday evening the Intermediate
pupils will appear; on Wednesday
evening, the younger children: and
on Saturday the senior students will
be presented in recital. All of the
programs will be given In the Nelson
building concert hall and will be
open to the public.

58th Anniversary
Of interest In Salem is the 58th
wedding anniversary of Mr. and
Mrs. J. H. Mulkey of Monmouth.
observed baturday, June 15, at their
home in Monmouth. They were
married at The Dalles In 1871. The
only other person now living who
attended their wedding Is a broth
er, W. J. Mulkey. 83, of Monmouth.
Mrs. Mulkey was Emily Porter.
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel
Porter; pioneers of the Halsey sec
tion. In 1870 they, went to eastern
Oregon where Miss Porter met Mr.
Mulkey, a native of Corvallis, who
was engaged in trie cattle business
near Antelope. Remaining there
lor ten years, Mr. and Mrs. Mulkev
came to the valley and settled on
a farm near Monmouth, removing
to their present home on West
Main stret, Monmouth, in 1914. -
Mr. and Mrs. Mulkev have six
children: Mrs. Blanche Sloan,
Mrs. Ray Adams, Hartley Mulkey
and Myrtle Mulkey of Monmouth:
Mrs. May Mcuowan of Buena Vis
ta, and Mrs. Charles Holman of
Chehalis, Washington. There are
21 grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren among their descend
ants. Mrs. Mulkey Is 73 years of aire.
