Professor Rub-Tts played several
numbers on his studio organ Includ
ing chiefly the more familiar clas
sics such as Handel's "Largo" and
the "Pilgrims' Chorus." Among the
numbers which particularly de
lighted the audience were the organ

the guests were entertained with fin

floor of the Roberts' home. The
spacious reception hall, llvins rooms,
dining room and serving table were
beautifully decorated with carna
tions In shades of rose, combined
with daffodils and acacia. Mrs.
Harry T. Love assisted Mrs. Roberts
throughout the evening.
Presiding at the serving urns dur
ing the evening were Mrs. Isaac Lee
Patterson, wife of Governor Pat
terson, and Mrs. Walter Pierce
(Cornelia Marvin.) wife of cx-Gov-ernor

ths Tuberculosis hospital, east of
Salem.

make a concert tour of the north-

Woman's Club To
Entertain Guests
Women of Salem are much in
terested in the meeting of the Sa
lem Woman's club Saturday after
noon in the clubhouse on North
Cottage street. Guest Day will be
observed at this meeting which will
be one of the most interesting of
the entire club year and each club
member is privileged to bring a
guert,

Mnps," at the program hour. The

Presented March 1
Rosamunde'' the Schubert opera
in two acts to be presented March 1
by the advanced chorus and orches
tra classes ot Salem high school
promises to be ,an entertainment
of more than usual interest.
The opera includes a wide var
icty of characterizations: the dig
nified King of Cyprus, the un
flinching Rosamunde, the adroit
Candia with his schemes against
the king; Aja, the foster mother
of Rosamunde who really holds the
key to the story; and the deaf old
man who attends the king.
Miss Ola LaMoinc Clark is acting
as faculty manager for the opera
and victor Wolfe as general man
ager. Lena Belle Tartar is dramatic

Salem Peoole To Be
Honored With Ball
An outstanding event of the week
will be the military ball honoring
Governor and Mrs. Isaac Lee Pat
terson and Adjutant General and
Mrs. George A. White which will
take place Fnday evening at the
McMinnville armory. The aiiair
will be given by the national guard
units of Tillamook, Dallas, and Mc
Minnville and about 1000 cards
have been Issued for the affair. Of
ficers and their wives from all
parts of the state as well as from
Vancouver, Washington are
nected to be in attendance.
Following the ball, Adjutant
General and Mrs. White will en
tertain the officers and their wives
stationed in Salem with a buffet
supper in their home on Bellcvuc
street.
The Enclewood community club
will meet Friday afternoon, March
1. at the home of Mrs. Earl Gilbert,
1320 Market street. The meeting
was originally planned for Febru
ary 22.

Frances Chance and Burrel Brown
are delegates to the exposition at
O. A. C. from the Mill City high
school.

to refuse to accept the resignation
of the church pastor, Charles E.
Ward. Rev. Ward who is exceed
ingly well liked by his local con

The Salem music teachers were
entertained Tuesday evening at the
home of Mrs Henry Lee on Stewart
street.

ompanled by Mr. McGilchrist on !
the concertina.
Refreshments were served at the
close of the evening by Mrs. Lee,
assisted by Mrs. Ethel Poling Phelps.
It was decided at the meeting
that the Salem music teachers' as
sociation would sponsor the pro
gram for the opening night of mu
sic week. May 0-11. The program
will be a benefit for the national
MacDowcll colony. Plans were also
discussed for national good music
week which promises to be a greater
music week than ever before, under
the direction of Mrs. Walter Den
ton who will be assisted by other
committees. Many fine concerts are
planned for the week the program
for which will be announced later.

SESSION AT HUBBARD
Hubbard Arl on temple met in
regular session Tuesday evening
giving initiation to Beryl Blosser
of Hubbard. During the business
session Sadie Scholl was appointed
delegate to the convention to be
held April 6 at Aurora. Coble do
Lespinasse was appointed to ar
range for an entertainment stunt
for the next temple meeting to be
given during the social hour.
Grandmas Bevens, who has been ill
for some time, was able to be pres
ent to attend the first Initiation
under the gavel of her granddaugh
ter, Anitta Bevens, who is most ex
cellent chief of the temple.
The next meeting will be held
March 5, when there again will be
ladies' initiation. Vcrna Ott and
Ruth Stauffer, standing social com
mittee, will be in charge of the
luncheon following the evening's
session.

D. Pomeroy were hosts to the C. R.
club on Tuesday evening at their
home on C street. Special guests
of the club were Mr. and Mrs, R.
M. Walker. The homo was prettily
decorated in red and white carna
tions and ferns. The members In
clude Mr. and Mrs. K. L. Williams.

GIRL SCOUTS START
REHEARSAL ON PLAY

Scouts held their annual dinner at
the Wood burn armory Tuesday.
The meal was prepared by the girls
with the assistance of Mrs. Eugene
Mosliberger, Mrs, W. P.' Norman, ,
Mrs. Lee Withers and Mrs. Myrtle
Clark. Covers wera placed for 43,
including 37 girls and six adults.
Place cards were Washington birth
day hatchets with candy handles.
Games were played in the gym
before dinner and afterwards the
girls rehearsed a play which they
expect to present at the high school .
auditorium March 2. This play pic
ture? the girl scouts at the inter
national scout camp and features
the national dances of the various
nations. Miss Margaret Brooks and
Miss Fern Wadsworth are directing
the play and Mrs. Mabel Ballard
and Miss' Alice Shorey are assist
ing as pianists. The armory was
donated free of charge by Captain
Olfon.
