Mrs. J. D. Sutherland has gone to
Portland for a week's visit with rel
atives and friends. She will be the
house guest of Mrs. A. M. Cannon
and of her son and daughter-in-law,

land. Mrs. Sutherland, whose home
Is In San Francisco, came north
several weeks ago for an extended
visit In Salem, her former home.
She has taken an apartment at the
Court for the summer months.

Miss Lola Barbara Barnes left this
morning on the Union Pacific line
for Chicago and Gary, Indiana,
where she will spend the summer
months. During July, Miss Barnes
will study under Miss Edna McRae,
formerly assistant teacher In the
Russian dancing schools of Faoley.
Oukrainsky and Bohm. In August
she will visit her parents In Oary,
Indiana and teach playground work
in the Gary public schools, returning
to Salem September 1. About the
middle of September Miss Barnes
plans to open a studio In the new
Wills building on Liberty street
Employees of the H. L. Stiff furni

evening at Begets' grove. After a
picnic supper, games and swimming
were enjoyed. A cantpflra program
with music by the Bnseau music
shop closed a delightful evening.
