Dallas, Dec. 21 The Willys
Knight sedan stolen from the
Shreeve Garage on Saturday night
was picked up In Mcl.Iinnvllle Tues
day by Sheriff Manning of Yam
hill county. Sheriff Manning tel
ephoned Sheriff Hooker that the
car was found standing on the
street, apparently uninjured. Craven,
the owner of the car went to Me
Mlnnvllle Tuesday afternoon to
claim It.
WELL IS COVERED;
HORSE IN TUMBLE
Falls City, Dec. 21 One of Ira
Mehrlings horses fell In an old well,
while he was plowing a field for
John Caldwell recently.
The well had been filled within
eight feet of the top and was covered
over with boards and sod, and no
one knew It was there.
By shoveling In dirt the horse was
finally released none the worse for
such an accident.. Only the day be
fore Mehrling had been using I
tractor and had turned around with
in a foot from this well.

cold on his lungs. It Is feared It
might develop Into pneumonia as
he has had several previous attacks

Eporthw league of the Ford Meth
odist Memorial church held their
annual supper in the Sunday school
room from 4 until 6 o'clock with
their leader, Mrs. Burleigh in charge.
There were 4G children present.
Games were played with Janet Se
bern r.nd Vera iitgwart helping and
directing. Mesdamea Bannister, La
Due, Brown, Hamby, and Adams as
sisted Mrs. Burleish in serving the
supper.
FARM HOME AIDED
BY EVER READY CLUB
King's Valley. Dec. 21 A box full
of underwear, shirts, trousers, coats
bath towels, dish towels, holders.
stockings, etc., was the result of the
days work of the Ever Ready social
club, to be sent to the Children's
Farm Home.
The club met with Mrs. Skelton
holding an all day meeting. A boun
teous lunch was served at noon, each
woman contributing. Plans were
made for later In the year to take
one meeting day for the club mem
bers to go by autos to visit the farm
home.

has been made by John P. Neufeldt
who resides on R. D. No. 1. to have
his farm registered under the name
"Prune Knoll", When granted this
will be the 199th farm In Polk
county to receive a registered title

Dallas, Dec. 21 A suit to clear
title has been filed In the circuit
court by Louis Lochmund vs Hen
ry H. Burbank and unknown heirs;
Minerva Burbank; Charles D. Bur-
bank; Mary Burbank. Aron Bur
bank and unknown heirs and 100
other defendants. The original title
to the property Involved as a patent
granted by the United States on
February 20, I860 to Thomas Bur
bank and Elizabeth Burbank, con
sisting of 640 acres In Sections 8,
9, 10 and 15 In T. 21 S. R. 4 W.
HOME IS DESTROYED
Falls City, Dec. 21 The temporary
home of Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Hammel
at the Hammel construction camp
near Blodgett was destroyed by fire.

schools and the United Brethren
Sunday school will be given at the
United Brethren church. There
will be a Christmas tree, and a
"treat" for all the children. The
auditorium Is being tastefully dec
orated by a committee composed of
Dorothy McKinley, Virgil Bronson,
Mrs. Alice Bosshardt, and Angus
Mclntyre. Among the many who
will contribute to the occasion In
song, dialogue, recitation, etc.. are:

MRS. MAYS CALLED
WHILE IN PORTLAND
Amity. Dec. 2t Mrs. William
Mays died in Portland at the home
of her daughter, Friday, at the age
of 61 yeais, eight months and four
days. Her home was east of Amity
near Hopewell. She Is survived by
her husband and two daughters.
Funeral services were conducted at
the Amity Christian church by her
pastor. Rev. Rlckerson, Sunday
afternoon at 2 o'clock and Interment
was in the Amity cemetery.

this city entertained the circles of

The East Side circle of Portland
put on the work. Their drill team.
which had won such distinction at
the opening of the Woodcraft home
at Riverside. California, was pres
ent and put on a special drill which
they had given there.
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Massey and
E. Cochran were Initiated Into the
mysteries of Woodcraft at this time.
Addresses were made by differ
ent members of the visiting lodges.
A midnight supper followed the
program. The tables were decorat
ed In keeping with the holiday sea
son with holly, red candles and
evergreens.

food sale given by the ladies of the
Baptist church here from December
15 to 19, was well patronized and
nearly all the fancy work sold read
ily. The Bume of more than $130.00
was made by tills sale.
BUTLER FAMILY TO
HOLD BIG REUNION
Monmouth, Dec. 21 The Butlers
will hold their 47th Christmas tree
and family reunion on Christmas
eve. It will be given as In previous
years In the beautiful family home
stead which Is now the home of Prof.
J. B. V. Butler.
Although two members of the Im
mediate family have passed away
since the reunion last year, the re
maining ones will carry on the
festivities as they would have wished
it If they had remained. The de
parted ones were Orvillc Butler and
Levllle Butler Boothby.
The invitations have been sent out
and severel "new" husbands and
wives are expected to be introduced
nt the function. As in previous years
Santa Claiu has been Invited and
there will be a big tree for the
children and "eats" for everyone.

will close Friday evening, December
23 with the Christmas tree and a
program consisting of the three act
play, "Scrooges' Christmas," Inter
spersed with music and readings.

FOR PEDEE RESIDENT
Dallas, Dec. 21 Will Brush, a
well known farmer living In the
Pedee ountry, died Tuesday from
pneumonia at the farm home. Mr.
Bush was 53 years ot age and was
born In Oregon. Funeral arrange
ments have not yet been made,

their houses before the students left
for their vacations on Friday.

games and cards were enjoyed.
At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy
Demtng, Wedn?sday evening the
girls enjoyed a real Christmas dinner.
