47TH BIRTHDAY
ELECTRIC LIGHT
OBSERVED TODAY
West Orange, N. J., Oct. 21. (JP)
Today was the 47th birth of the
electric light. Thomas A, Edison,
, who invented it, la convinced that
his profeKBlon blazes the way to
universal peace. '
"Invention has not led to war."
he said. "Invention hus produced
a reasoning and a questioning oe.
. People are becoming, because of
the changes brought about- by in
vention, more intelligent and will
not stand for exploitation hy em
perors and kings and soclcik").
There Is more reasoning and ques
tioning today than ever before. We
are In the process of .discarding
those things which In the p.ist hove
been breders of war and opni-entrion
"The field is unlimited. If I were
to begin my cureer over again 1
would turn to electric light, bent
.end chemical-reactions. The youne
, man so Inclined should have no
. hesitation In taking up invention its
. a profession, provided he has imng-
Inntion and the will to work.!' , -Air.

recall the day that fdllowed his dis
covery that a loop of carbonized
sewing thread; sealed In a bulb
from whlrh the air had been pump-
: ed and connected with electric cur
rent, would bun. for 48 hours.
