TAXES OF STATE
During the year 1926 the people
' of Oregon will be paying taxes In
license Seem for the operation of
their automobiles totalling nearly
double the state tax paid in Ore
ffon on assessable property, accord
ing to estimates of Sam A. Koser,
secretary ot state
While motor vehicle owners aio
bucking up a little In their appli
cations for 1926 licenses they are
mill about 3000 behind the num
ber at the corresponding date a
year ago, says Mr, Kozor. Less
than 20,000 applications have been
filed with the state department.
"The fees received for 1926 11
. censes up to December 18 aggre
gate $475,000, while the fees re
ceived up to December 18, 1924
for 1925 licenses 'aggregated 1 57.1, -000,"
said Mr, Kozer. "During the
entire year 1924 a total of 192,629
motor vehicle licenses were issued
So fnr during the year 1925 there
has been issued a total of 216,077
motor vehicle licenses.
"Tho aggregate fee for those li
censes is 5,3C2,G53. The total fees
received for all the motor licenses
issued in the year 1924 were $4
7GG.4C3. This means that tho li
cense fees for 1925 will be sub
stantially $600,000, more than the
fees recelveA during tho entire
year 1924. On this same basis of
increase during the year 1926, It
is reasonable to assume that more
than 235,000 motor vehicle licen
ses will be issued In Oregon and
that the aggregate fees therfrom
will bo well on to $6,000,000,
'It is estimated, also, based on
receipts up to November 30, 1925,
that the tax on gasoline for the
entire year 1925 will 'amount to
more than (3,050,000. For the
entire year 1924 the gross receipts
were lubstanttally (2.673,317, and
If the same ratio of Increase In
consumption maintains to the end
of the year the gross receipt
should amount to fully (3,050.000.
"Inasmuch as the gross returns
on tho tax for the year 1925 will
be substantially (375,000 excess of
tho receipts for the year 1924, It
Is reasonable to assume, having
In mind tho estimated motor ve
hicle registration for the year 1926
that tho gross tax on gasoline will
amount to at least (3,400,000 for
the year, which means that motor
vehicle owners In Oregon will he
paying In tho neighborhood of (9,
000,000 as compared with tho ac
tual payment by them for the yenr
- 125 of substantially (8,425.000.
"Comparing this with tho stnic
tax, aside from the elementary
school tax, wo find that for the
year 1925 this amounted to 15,
375,000, while for the year ltf
as recently levied by the State Tax
Commission, which amounts to
(5,031.765, or during the year 1926
the people of Oregon will be pay
ing tax 1 n license fees for the op
eration of their motor vehicles In
an aggregate sum of almost doa
ble that which the assessable prop
erty of Oregon will pay In Its state

In fairness to your wife this Christmas
give her freedom. Kick slavery out of your home
Spare her woman's hardest drudgery.
To HUSBANDS:
Stop and think a mo
ment. Reduce gift-giving to
terms of happiness, pleas-.
ure, joy.
Now consider that the most
'splendid thing you can give your
wifo will really cost you not one
cent.
Por your wife already is PAYING for
this now-day freedom, whether 04 not
Bho gots it.
. Why Should She
Submit?
Why should your wife submit to
back-brcaklug, health-destroying labor
which men would never doT
Why should your wlte wear herself
clear out on washday till she's too
tired for a pleasant erenlng?
Why should she wear her health
away grow old before her time? Ask
any veteran doctor. It you're ever
thought such drudgery beneficial to
health.
Science Made This
Possible
Modern science has made washday
drudgery needless. Today alt your
clotJiea eret. baby clothes and silken
lingerie are washed cheaper, better,
and actually SAFER than your wife
can do sit home.
Science found old ways harmful to
clothes. Now new and BETTER ways
are used. Today clothes are sorted, so
that each piece In your bundle Is wash
ed the proper way. Today we use pur
er eoaps than your wifo can use at
home. Only the PUREST of materials,
lnwhlch you could safely wash your
face. New-type fresh-air drying. New
typo flatwork IronerB, replacing the old
laundry "innnglo." In short, we have
simply revolutionized laundry methods.
Lower Prices
Now
Those now and bettor niothods have
brought vastly Increased volume. And
Just note
how little it costs to
send your washings
to this laundry
1. WET-WASH S a. v e s far
more work than electric
washer, actually at less cost.
Everything Scientifi
cally washed with purest of
materials and returned
alfehtly damp, just right for
Ironing, 20 pounds or less,
75c. 4 cents eacn additional
pound.
3. THRIF-T SERVICE! Same
as Wet-Wash except all flat
pieces Ironed. 15 pounds or
leas, 90 cents, 6 cents each
additional pound.
And Three Other
Low Cost Services
this brought lower prices. Today
EVERY family can afford one ot out
economical family washing services.
Today, nroporly figured, It oosts you
LESS to send your washings bere than
to have your wife slave away doing
them at home.
Few have ever really stopped to fig
ure the several Uttlo costs of doing
washings and Ironings at homo. Do
this, and you'll be surprised. Those lit
tle costs mount up, far faster than most
folks realize.
Then figure the colds th, washing
oauses and the coBt of cold-cures, and
occasional doctor bills.
Figure the cost ot your wife's time
the cost ot denying that time for
thoughtful training and rearing ot your,
children.
If you've thought you saved by keep
ing this dreary task In the home, can
you sco the cash you havo saved can
you put your hands on It today?
OTHER Wives
Enjoy it .
YOU,- yourself, would never submit to
washday drudgory and every week "

Hundreds ot OTHER Salem wives en
Joy this new-day froedom. They would

Why not let YOUR wife Join them?
