15-Year-Old Theatre
Program Recalls Old
Order to Play Goers
Fifteen years may be only a day 1
to May Robson, but fifteen years
have meant many changes to Salem
as . an examination of a fifteen-i
year-old theater program proves. I
Fifteen years ago this season May,
Bobaon made her first appearance
in Ealem at the "Grand Opera
House." On Wednesday evening
She played in the same theater,
now the Hellig, in a brand new
play. A Salem woman who saw
her fifteen years ago showed the

almost forgotten in the fifteen
years of "yesterdays" that have
elapsed. John F. Cord ray, who
before his death became one of the
best known theater men in the
northwest, wae manager of the
Grand opera house then. Ray
Farmer was local manager, L. C.
Farmer, advertising manager, and
Hoy Phillips the stage manager.

In the 1910 program are the print
ed rules of the house. Among them
are the following:
"Eating peanuts not allowed in
the theater."
"Curtain rises at 8:15. Mati
nee 2.15. Order carriages for
10:25."
"No intoxicating liquors of any
kind permitted about this thea
ter." , .
"Please report at the box office
any inattention or incivility of
Ushers or any other employe ot
mis tu eater. Tne management
will consider this a favor as the
principle of the house la to please,
not to offend."
Fifteen years ago marcela were
unheard of and Turkish hatha had
not been exploited. Beauty parlor
arts in the program boasted of

gave bake oven baths and did

owned on Commercial street. Pow
ers jewelry store in the then "new
Bligh block," the Capital Bakery,

son, who had a clothing store on
State and Liberty streets.
