The county court contemplates
starting in a short time on out
lining its market road program Cor
the coming year. Arrlvnl of a war
rant for $32,000 aa half of the mar
ket road fund coming to the coun
ty from the stato for the past year
will set the machinery in motion
for outlining the program.
With the county being required
to match this fund and a second
installment of like n mount being
due from the state along in Feb
ruary, this will give tho county
about $123,000 to work on next
year for market road development
from the 1-mill tax. In addition
that the county's share of the
gasoline tax for tho year will be
about $75,000, this also to go into
the market road fund.
With over $200,000 in eight for
market road development the
court will be ready to start In the
spring in full swing on the first
lap of its new five year program.
At the present time there seems
to be la sight miles of pavement In
elf lit which will be a virtual neces
sity, this including two miles near
Monitor, three miles near Scotts
Hills and three miles near Me ha ma
and there also will be additional
paving work, although just howe
extensive has not been determined.
It is doubtful if there will be as
much pavement put down jiext
year aa this when 10 miles ofnew
pavement were laid .on county
roads,
Tho new program will haVe more
of an Idea toward lifting the smal
ler communities out of the mud
with good types of macadamized
and graveled roads, and some ef
forts at oiling in a few places as
an experiment.
Numerous parts of the county
not benefited at all from the mar
ket road funds under the first pro
gram will have considerable active
work done during the next fivo
years. Just which will be the
first to benefit will be outlined
during the coming weeks in readi
ness for actual work In tho spring.

of Eugene is authorized to elim
inate grade crossing of Blair boule
vard over the Southern Pacific
tracks In tho northwest part of the
city, one of tho most heavily used
crossings on the Eaclflc highway.
Blair boulevard is the mnin ar
tcry of traffic into the city from
tho north, and in addition to motor
vehicle traffic carries the street
railway line of the Southern Paci
fic company in Eugon.
Tho order points out that the
city Is now improving Railroad
avenue, which parallels Blair boule
vard and which will accommodate
traffic by way of a crossing on
Van Buren street, also that plans
are being completed for entrance
Into the city by West Sixt street.

thority to eliminate the Blair
boulevard crossing was protested
by a large number of persons own
ing property on Blair.

when the animal concluded that

was beyond repair. The airplane
carrying eight passengers from
Parle to Brussels was forced down
by a defecttvo motor and landed
in a pasture 15 miles from Brus
sels, The bull, aroused by the chug
ging of the motor, made straight,
for it, while the pilot and pas
sengers jumped out and made their
escape in a mad rush across the
field. The animal charges the ma
chine again and again and kept at
his work of destruction until the
passengers got out of the danger
zone.
