PRISON HUNGER STRIKE

Roy Gardner, mail bandit, stlckup
man and train robber, broke a 30
day hunger strike soon after he ar
rived at the Atlanta federal peni
tentiary from Fort Leavenworth.
Kan., where he has been confined
since June, 1923.
Officials here said Gardner had
been fasting at Fort Leavenworth
as a protest agai.lst certain disci
plinary measures taken there and
that he had been removed to the
Atlnnta penitentiary as a means of
inducing him to eat.
Gardner has about fifty years
yet to serve. Prior to his confine
ment at Fort Leavenworth, he had
served time at San Quentin prison
in California and at McNeil Lsiand,
Washington.

George "Dutch" Anderson, pal
of Gerald Chapman and wanted
in Indiana for a revenge murder,
is being sought in . eouthweat
Waehington, it became known
here today. Several persons In
South Bend have identified pho
tographs of Anderson as the man
who came to South Bend last
Saturday and applied for work in
a bakery. Anderson is said to
have learned the baker's trade
while serving a term in the At
lanta federal penitentiary from
which he is now a fugitive.
The man suspected of being An
derson left South Bend for II
waco on the Columbia Tiver by
stage and since then he has not
been located. It has been learned
that several federal officials are
seeking the man.
THREE ARRESTED IN POLK
Dallas, Oct. 17 Ralph Rice,
Frank Davis and L. S. James were
arrested Friday at James Brothers
sawmill near Alrlle by Sheriff Hook
or and turned over to Sheriff Rich
ards of Linn county. The nature
of the charge was not known by
Sheriff Hooker but it was under
stood to have come about over a
car which Davis had owned.
The boys were all working at the
mill.
