SUIT IN INJURIES
Dallns, Oct. 14 A verdict in fa
vor of the defendant, S. C. Klnne of
Dallas, was returned by a Jury In
Judge Ramsey's court at 5 o'clock
Tuesday In the $20,000 damage
suit brought by Anna Rose of
Portland, The Jury was out about
two hours.
Miss Rose sought heavy damages
as a result of an auto accident In
Portland Devember 25, 1924, In
which she was knocked down by
Kinne's car. She claimed that the
accident had made her a perman
ent Invalid. The defense, conduct
ed by Oscar Hayter, brought out
the fact that Miss Rose'a physical
and nervous condition was a reeult
of Illness of long standing.
It also established the fact that
Klnne had ' rendered assistance,
employed a physician at his own
expense and disputed the conten
tion that he ha-d been traveling
without lights, and at an exces
alve speed.
The defence, conducted by Os
car Hayter, scored heavily in cross
examination of Mrs. Lucia Wnlcott
of Vancouver, Washington, and
Mrs. Fannie Nichols of J-ortland,
when they admitted that they had
prompted Miss Rose during her
testimony on the witness stand by
ehaking of the head and nodding
to Indicate the trend of her re
plies. The defence also introduced Dr.
W. Dixon of Portland who quali
fied as an X-ray specialist and stat
ed that photographs which he had
taken of her hands and feet show
ed a condition of chronic Anthrl
tls and had not resulted from a re
cent injury.
SEATTLE BLAZE
Seattle, Wash., Oct. 14 (AP)
While a fog that completely con
cealed houses and vehicles at one
hundred feet lay over Puget Sound
and Seattle today, three firemen
wore hurt in fighting a $200,000
blaze here today. The Zellerbach
Paper company and neighboring
concerns lost heavily.
Firemen waging the battle close
to the building at 807 Western ave
nuo wore scarcely able to perceive
the wall, and in the darkness Fire
man Oscar Van Nottingham had
no warning of the flight of a
weighty bale of paper that fell up
on him. He was rushed to a hospi
tal for an X-ray examination. Two
other firemen were cut by flying
glass.

as Jennie Wiedman, who traveled
with her husband in vaudeville
for years before she became

has to 'mother' her husband.
That's one of the reasons why I
was so anxious to enact the role,
for Mr. Bacon was like any other
man and I felt I could simply act
naturally In portraying the
character. "
There was a far away look in
her eyes and the moment or two
of silence weighed like a period of
hours. It was one of those times
when words are superflous. One
could feel the Intense emotion
which gripped her.
Mrs. Bacon was the boon com
panion of her famous husband
during all the stress and strife of
his early struggles. Shu shared
his bitter hardships, and when he
finally reached the pinnacle of
success, she presided over their
Long Island mansion with that
same tender loving kindness that
characterized her patient waiting
while he was climbing up. It. was
sue who nursed h'ra through those
last fafal days in Ch:engo, just be
fore his death.
It was to her that ho turned and
said in that gentle manner that
made him loved of sll who knew
htm: "I'm tired, mother, and feel
need a rest". He was "just
tired" and, when he closed his
eyes on Sunday night, he closed
them for a long, long sleep.
One Imagined the memory of
those last days was parading be
fore her mind during this period
of silence. Then she turned and.
with a smile that shone through
dewy eyelashes:
"Yes, I'm' happy happy, as I
can be to be able to carry on in
the play that made Frank so
famous. "

hunting Chinese pheasants in all
parts of Oregon will begin. The
