dation, of the two congregations.
Both congregations belong to the
same synod and both conduct serv
ices in the Cni;lir,u and Norwegian
languages. Many of the members
think that one church should be
converted Into all Fnglish tind the
other Into alll Norwegian, while
others believe that the two congre
gations should join into one and
have both languages at different
times during Sunday. A third
factor believes that it would be
better to leave the two congrega
tions separate ns they are at pres
ent. A conaolldtilion of the two
would make a congregation of
1200 members. If the two con
gregations do consolidate one pas
tor would he engaged to handle
tho entire field at Silverton.
Tho committees at work will an
nounce no definite plans until the
quartely meetings of both congrc
gatlona during the first week of
October. A definite action In some
direction will be taken at this

The children's health clinic will
begin In Silverton school about the
first of November, according to
reports rtom school authorities.
Road work on the Brush Creek
road is progressing- nicely. Doubts
are, however, expressed that the
work will be completed to the
Pudding river bridge before rain
sets In as at first planned. The
road has been nearly completed to
Scandla, station. Two fills will
have to be made before tho river
is reached. These will retard pro
gress to some extent. Tho one will
be at the Brush Creek Indentation
and the other at the small creek
just before the Pudding river is
reached. It Is understood that
these two low places will be built
up to some extent. It Is also re
ported that the entrance to I'ua
ding river bridge will be straight
cued. A short curve In tho road at
this place makes traffic dangerous
at times. Paving will not begin
until next spring.

POLK IS CALLED
Dallas. Or., Sept. 24. The Polk
county grand juiy has been sum
moned to meet Monday, Septem
ber 28, preparatory to the fall
term of Circuit Judge Ramsey's
court which opens October 5 in
Dallas.
The Jury will be the same which
met fa special eeesion September
IX and indicted W. H. Lloyd and
Karl Cullen.
There are a number of casea to
come before the grand jury session
but none of outstanding import
ance. These Include a liquor
charge against William Hoppe.
statutory rape charges against
Krail Schmid and Leland Hoy, a
larceny charge against Lawrence
Kay and a number of lesser cases
while other matt era not yet re
vealed will probably be gone into
under direction of District Attor
ney Helgerflon.
In addition to the Lloyd mur
der trial, which has been set for
1 o'clock on October 5, the Tim
Derry liquor violation case is al
ready on the docket. Owing to an
affidavit of prejudice filed by Der
ry against Judge Ramsey another
judge will be called into sit upon
this case. It has not yet been set.
