had a busy meeting: Tuesday even
ing in the council rooms. Follow
ing the reading of the minutes the
usual amount of bills were allow
ed. A sewer ordinance was then
presented by the vater commission
but referred back to the commis
sion for correction.
A pool hall ordinance was read
This gave to thu council the spe
cific right to allow and license
pool bullH. The ordinance aIho

ignate the number and the area
where pool halls should be located.

blue prints will be on display at
the community fair which opens
at Silverton today.

nounced that he wag going away
on a vacation and asKed that
someone be appointed to take his

the first of this month from her

Dallas. Or., Sept. 10. Objection
to the proposed assessment for the
1925 cement sidewalk program
was raised Tuesday night at the
council meeting and the final de
termination or assessments waa
postponed while 'the street com
mittee Investigated the remon
strances.
S. Carter, whose walk was Im
proved by waiver, filed a letter in
which ho held that his walk way
too high, that it encroached on
the property line and that it
would settle out of shape because
it wua laid on a new fill along the
mill race.
Edward J. Ilimes objected to the
levying of an assessment on hie
property as the sidewalk will not
be laid until next year because of
a fill nlong the mill race. This ob
jection was sustained as affecting I
four pieces of property where the
walk is not yet in.

cent for the city property, accord

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Moser spent
the week end at Silverton as guests
of Mrs. Moser's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. E. Taylor.
Melvin Riviness, formerly own
er of the L. & M. grocery, has pur
chased the Marquam store.
Silvertonians who were at one
time resfdents of Kansas claim that

for Corvallis Tuesday of this week.
Mr. Ployhart Is a sophomore at the
Oregon Agricultural college and a
coming football star. During hie
freshman year he was an outstand
ing figure on the Rook football
team. Mr. Ployhart went down
early to practice with the team.
He is a member of the Lambda
Chi Alpha fraternity.
Miss LlUle Madsen was a dinner
guest of Miss Helen Idloman at the
school for the feeble minded Tues
day. Miss Idleman is the daugh
ter of Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd D. Idle
