Ruth, home run king, was sus
pended indefinitely today by Man
ager Miller Huggine of the New
York Yankees. Huth made no
comment whatever and merely
shrugged when Hugging told him
to pack up and return to New
York.
None of the Yankee play ere
would say anything in regard to
Ruth's suspension. Xload Secre
tary Mark Hoth hnnded the bam

with his suitcase without leaving

It la expected that on their re

John, who will remain hero with

He probably will get to see them
for a brief time at the White
House before resuming his studies.

One thousand casos of liquor were
taken when the trawler Virginia
Hyde and a crew of four men were
seized by the coast guard cutter
Golden Gate off the Farollone Is
lamic, at 2 o'clock this morning.
After the vessel was towed to
Mciggs wharf the crew was placed
In a detention shack from which
they made their escape before day
break. Two of men were re
captured by a Chinese cook who
wound them hiding in the pantry
aboard the Golden Gate. Search
was being made at daybreak for
the two men who were at large.
The borne port and registry of
the Virginia Hyde had not been
established early today.

super-airplane capable of a non
stop flight to Paris with a ton of
sxplosfvctj has baen perfected, but
government permission to test It
has been withheld.
"The producers believe, and I
believe, that the huge biplanes
they have bunt are capable of fly
ing to Peking with a b ingle stop
at Nome, Alaska. And this, with
a ton of explosives. The planes
are ready. They will make US
miles an hour for 60 hours. But
we can't prove it unless the army
and navy heads see fit to grant us

Both burglars were concealed be
hind handkerchief masks, Westoff
reported. Police believe the two
robberies were committed by the

Definite announcement was
made this morning that an ex
tensive program of Improvement
of the Willamette university cam
pus will be effected this fall.
Henry Booth, of Roseburg, has
been placed in charge of the cam
pus, and is expected to come to
Salein and get things started next
week. Henry Booth is a brother
of It. A. Booth of Eugene, prom
inent trustee of the university.

cause he is known to make a hob
by of landscape gardening, It was
stated by President Doney today.
Improvements involve plowing
up the entire campus where the
lawn now exists, according to Dr.
Doney. The purpose in plowing it
up is to get rid of the thick growth
of weeds that now Infest the lawn,

range for a layer of rich soil to
be placed on top of the ground be
fore new gross seed is sown.

A number of maple trees now
growing along the State street
sidewalk at the west end of the
campus will be pulled up. The
entire row on the north side of
the State street sidewalk was re
moved several years ago.
Along the walk there will be
planted a row of bawthorne trees,
alternating red and white, ac
cording to present pinna. At other
parts of the caiftpus an effort will
be made to vary the shrubbery
and other plants growing. At
the present time most of the trees
on the campus are maples. Many
of these will be pulled out, and In
their place tulip, dogwood and
other trees planted.
