Peter Welsh of Calgary, with his
horses, featuring Canada's prem
ier high jumpers, will be a high
light of the shows. This string In
cludes Barra Lad, Canadian high
Jump champion, with a record of
seven feet four and one-half inches
An interesting bit of news concern
ing this great horse Is that he waft
sired by CraiKmore Peer, the Im
ported Hackney stallon, owned by
Oswald West of Portland. This
latter named horse, heretofore a
performer at the Salem nhowa will
again be seen in the tan bark
nrena. West will enter a number
of other horses also in the, vari
ous events.
Hoy Davis of Beverley Hills,
Hollywood, has wired Mrs. Ella
Schultz Wilson, secretary of the
state fair board, that he will ship
a splendid string of horse show
animals. Davis was here two years
ago, at which time his horses were
among the most spectacular In the
ring. He will nguln enter some of
tho horsca seen at that time as
well as a number of new ones.
The McCIeave string, owned by
James McCIeave of Everett, Wash.,
favorites at the-annual horse show
li. Salem, will be back again, pre
pared to uphold their previous rec
ords of skilled performances. Nali
McDougal of Portland, will be back
again, as will also Harry M. Ker-
ron, Mrs. C. E. Crelle, LeRoy
Fields, W. F. Turner, president Of
the 8, P. & S., and members of the
Portland Hunt club and Polo club
who will represent Portland In the
forthcoming events. Moore of
Seattle, known to horse show fans,
will show a fine string here also.
In anticipation of Increased
crowds at the horse show more
than three hundred additional
seats have been added to those al
ready provided in the stadium, and
there are nearly fifty new boxes
installed as well. i
Six-horse hitches will be an In
teresting feature this year, with
larger class already listed than
ever before. This includes the en
tries by A. C. Ituby of Portland;
D. F. Uurge of Albany; R. C. Mc
Crosky of Garfield. Wash.; II. W,
Merritt of Rosalie. Wash.; the
Smith Dairy Farm of Aberdeen.

roadsters, fine harness horses, sin
gle, ladles and gentlemens' road
sters, single and roadsters, pairs

dlers. Prizes are offered for ladies'
and gentlemen's five gnited sad

est Is for cow horses with equip
ment, horse to be shown under
stock snddle, rider to wear cowboy
equipment. The horses will be giv
en trial nt turning, familiarity with
rope, tendency to stand with reins
loose, pulling rope, dragging sand
bang, and other details essential
a good cow horse.
A large-section of the classifica
tion list makes provision for pon
