MAN INJURED BY BLAST
Mill City, Aug, 13 C. M. Beales,
employed by the Hammond Lum
ber company with a crew of men
clearing the right of way for log
ging rond extension, suffered pain
ful Injuries Monday when he fail
ed to get away from a blast soon
enough, resulting In his face and
chest being Tilled full of small
rock. A heavy cap he wore prob
ably saved him from more serl
oua injury, as It appears he was
tamping moro dirt in the hole
when the charge went off, and the
cap somewhat protected his eyes
and the top of his head. He was
brought to the hospital here.

months old baby boy of Mr. and
Mrs. John Tweedie strangled to
death at 11:30 Tuesday morning.
The child had been sleeping in
an ordinary double bed and the
mother had laid the child on the
side next to the wall; in some
manner the child slipped between
the bed and wall, his body fall
ing free but b!e head catching in
such a maimer ae to cause stran
gulation; the child made no out
cry and the mother discovered
his condition only when she
went to waken him for hie feed
ing; all attempts at resuscita
tion failed.
The baby was buried Thursday
afternoon in Woodburn, the for
mer home of the Tweediea.
