"The price paid In round figures
lor the four pieces of property was
more than 13,000,000. The prop
erty was not sold to evade the In
heritance tax or the gift tax, as
suggested. The money was paid In
cash."
Had the properties been willed,
Mr. Rockefeller's estate, after his
death, would have to pay a forty
per oont federal tax, plus state
taxes in New York and New Jer

their fiancees waited for their re
turn, Theodore Finke and Harry
Loren Meyers of Seattle, drowned
In the Stllllaguamlsh below Gran
ite Falls, 45 miles northeast of
here yesterday while attempting to
take pictures of the plunging wat
ers. Meyers, a senior at the Univer
sity of Washington, sacrificed his
life when he plunged into the roar
lng water In an effort to save his
companion who had slipped off a
rock. Both were sucked below the
surface In an Instant and were dead
before rescuers could reach them.
Meyers was engaged to Miss
Mable Finke, a sister of Theodore,
and they were to have been mar
rled after his graduation. Finke
and Miss Irene McGrath had plan
