STAYTON VOTED
Stayton, July 7 The Fourth has
come and gone: Stayton is full of
weary mothers, sun-burned child
ren and snfl-eyed, dry looking
men. Empty concession booths
decorate the street corners, and
the remains of fire crackers and
paper-cap pistols litter the street.
but everyone Is happy the hotel
men and soft drink merchants fair
ly glow becauwe thoy made
"killing" peddling their wares; the
Community club officials look hap
py for their dances on Friday and
Saturday nights were highly suc
cessful. The mothers are beginning
to chirk up a little because an
other fourth has gone and their
children haven't been burned to
death or run over by care; even
the sad-eyed dry looking men are
beginning to look le.-s sad and leas
dry.
The dances given by the Com
munity clulw Friday and Saturday
nights, were highly successful. On
Friday night more than one hun
dred couples and many spectators
filled the open air pavilion In the
Masonic grove, and on Saturday
night It seemed as If every town
within a rndius of CO miles or fsiay
ton had emptied Its numbers on
the pavilion floor; the dance was
a Jitney one and a perspiring, jost
ling mob, but, withal an orderly
one. contested for each iw incnes
of dancing space.

mal hearing before Justice of the

nlssed under the proviso that the

for all damage done the car.
Judge Greer after considering
the enso for some time concluded
that there was no evidence of an
intent to steal the car; nor was
here nay evidence of Huch a na
ture as to warrant him binding the
boys over to the grand Jury; con
sequently he dismissed tho action
pending due restitution to be made
he owner of tho car by young
Ilyan and Harry Hevenham.

LEGION LOSES
TO CASEYS 5 TO 0
The American Legion baaeball
nine of the twilight league lost
their first league game when the
Knlghta of Columbus handed them
a whipping to the tune of 6 to 0
on the Oxford park diamond last
night.
"Red" Keber, second baseman,
and Dennis Heenan, star Salem
high school player, who pitched
the Caseys to victory were by far
the outstanding stars of tho game.
Heenan almost got by with a no
hit, no-run game, allowing only
one man to get to first, when
Hoopor got a hit In tho fourth
frame. "Red" Kober, the small
second baseman for the winners,
brought in three of the victor's
runs by his stellar batting. In the
first inning Keber's hit brought in
tho first run, which was followed
by Varley and Aldiich, on a hit
by Goas in the second. In the
fourth inning the red-head again
stepped to the plate and got two
more hits to bring In Iwo more
runs.
Jenkins, Legion twirl er and
Heenan both struck out eight men
but Heenan's hurling was of much
steadier and heavier variety. The
Legion men seemed unable to
solve his pitching and looked rath
er alck attempting to connect safely.
By handing the Legion nine their
first league defeat the Casey team
b In a good position for a chance
to meet the Legion in the finals.
The lineup for the game last
night follows:
