Mt. Angel, July 6. The Mt.
Angel baseball nine broke even In
the two games which were played
over the week-end. On the Fourth
the local team played Silverton on
the field near tho Silver Falls
Timber company mill In a 10 to 8
game. The Mt. Angel boye made
a costly error In the second Inning
and Silverton scored eight runs In
the one inning. Another la the
sixth and one in the eighth gave
the Silverton team a lead that Mt.
Angel could not overcome.
Better luck and fewer errors
gave Mt. Angel the long score with
a better team yesterday when they
played Molalla. In an eleven in-
ng game tho final count was 7 to
4. Molalla tied the score in the
ninth and neither side was able to
break through until a second in
ning was played.
Moro than sixty Mt. Anfcci peo-
nle took the special car that was
run to Molalla on the W. V. S. yes
terday.

To the Editor: To correct an im

would hold out regaruing roao
route Salem to St. Paul via Fair
field will give a few fi.sts.
Mr. Espy aays but two people
live on this stretch of contemplated
macadam road from Aral to St.
Paul, commissioner Jim Smith and
Mike Mahoney. Suppose because
we do not bank at woonourn Mr.
Espy falls to recognize we small
fry. Commissioner Smith lives near
St. Paul so is but a short distance
from pavement. Mike M. W. Mo
hony lives on another road Borne
two miles from this contemplated
route. Now, as to people, my wife
and I live on this road and wo are
still two adult people. Starting at
Aral's corner, will enumerate the
real bona fide Americans who do
live on this route.

Making a total of 92.
Several families live near and use
this road John Mart baler, Duke
Ball webber, George Ballwebber,
the Williams and Hart hop yards
giving employment some half dozen
families.
I am no booster for paved roads
but should be pleased to hand over
esteemed county court a boquet
for their senslblo ndoptlon of
mncndfim far superior in con
struction nnd upkeep to pavement
not mentioning several hundred
thousand dollars to Warren con
struction Co. In royalties on patent
paving there no patent on gravel
yet. There several families living
near St. Paul on this road includ
ing Com. Jim Smith.
r. Espy claims the route north
to connect pavement nt tho four
corners Is shorter It seem to me
that was not the Idea of the mar
ket roads to make short routes for
tourists but to serve the whole peo
ple even though they live at Fair
field or oven St. Paul.
Yours truly,
F. R. DuRette

Those who attended the morning
services at the First Congregation
al church on Sunday were treat
ed to a program of sacred music
by tho Immanuel male quartet and
saxaphone club. Versatility, pre
cision and perfect blending were
marked features of the quartet's
singing.
Joe J. Klelnsosser, manager,
first tenor and son of a minister;
Joe A. Kcarnes, second tenor and
a convert of a Billy Sunday reviv
al campaign; A. L. Relmer, first
bass, accompanist nnd a follower
of his father In devout Christianity,
and P. D. Eltzcn, second bass and
also son of a minister Is the per
sonnel of the quartet and the man
ner In which the singers were in
troduced. They hail from Van Nuys
California, traveling by auto and
having for company their wives
and a big blue-eyes baby, the
eight months old daughter of Mr.
Eitzcn, the basso.
Outstanding numbers rendered
by tho quartet wero: two negro
spirituals, "Heab'n" nn original ar
rangement, nnd "Peter, Ring Dem
Bells," Rodehnver; "The Rose of
Sharon," Anllen; ."Crossing the
Bar," Adams, and "My Jesusv X
Love Thee." Towner. Probably the
most effective number was the
beautiful harmonized scrlptual con
text "Remember now they Creator
in the days tt thy Youth."
(Rhodes.)
"The Stars and Stripes Forover,'
Sousa, was played as a saxaphono
number and was followed by
sacred selection arranged for the
saxaphone by members of the quar
tet. Mr. Kearnes, possessed of a
highly pleasing tenor voice, sang
as a solo "In the Dawn of Eternal
Day," (Roth). Mr. Eltzen's deep,
mellow bass voice was heard to
good effect In "Flee as a Bird.
(Dana).
