which I was driving and signalled
me to stop. I started to pull over to
tho side of tho road to be out oi
the way of traffic and this person
said: "What In hell Is the matter
with you? Why don't you stop
that car!" I got the car stoppea
and then ho said, "I have tne
goods on you fellows. You have
been hauling booze in that car."
I assured him that such was not
the case. At that time tne iiur.
nott boy got out of the car and he

SILVERTON GUARDSMEN
RETURN FROM GAM
Silverton, June 30 Company
of the national guard returning to
Silverton from Camp Jackson re
port the encampment as having
had a more military aspect that
any encampment heretofore. Part
of this may be due to the fact
that the company had its largest
showing this year, sixty-four men
and three officers having made the
trip. Although it was the first
trip for about fifty per cent of the
company no trouble or sickness of
any kind was experienced, excel
lent discipline being maintained at
all times.
The company was represented by
the following members In the rifle
try-out: Sergeant Roy Davenport,
Howard Edison, Melvin Chandler
and O. W. Olson. Owing to their
limited practice the men were un-
able to gain a place on the rifle
team.
The men appreciate particular
ly their treatment by the people of
Medford who did so much in the
way of giving free entertainments,
