Vr.cation tourists from Salem
and the Salem district would be
brought 48 miles nearer to the
Lincoln county beaches by a pro
posed new highway through Dal
las, Falls City and the Slleta val
ley, v. proposal for which has been
sent to tho Polk county court for
consideration by the Lincoln coun
ty commissioners. The proposed
highway would make an almost
direct line between Dallas and the
fsowport beaches and would elim-
into the circuit route to those
points through Corvallla on the
present Newport highway.
The proposal has evoked much
comment here and has aroused
considerable enthusiasm for the
project. It is l-omted out that
it would draw tourists traffic from
a district around Salem of some
40,0(10 people and would put Dul
las on the through, highway to
prom irom tnis patronage.
Actual undertaking of the new
roa I is dependent upon co-operation
between the Lincoln and
Pollt county court both of which
would bo required to prepare roads
through their districts.
