Los Angeles, Cul., June 19
Thomas Gilchrist admitted early
today to the police and a represen
tative of the-dLetrlct attorney's of
fice, that "under command of the
Lord" he administered the wounds
from which hia 19-year-old etep
daughter, Mm. Olive Morris, had
died a few hours earlier at the re
ceiving hospital.
The young woman had been
brought to the hoaplta during the
night with her throat cut, her
skull fractured and her body elaxh
d and battered after neighbors
bad found her In a semi-conscious
condition In a vacant lot across
the street from the Gilchrist home.
A few words tho officers were
able to obtain from her before
she died led to tho arrest of Gil
christ when he appeared at his
home an hour after the discovery
of the crime.
In a bedroom of the hou.se of
ficers found overturned furniture,
blood fipattcrcd clothing and other
evidence of a desporato struggle.
Just outside tho door lay a ham
mer with a blood marked handle.
Morvllle Morris, husband of the
alalit woman, said his wlfo had
gone to the Gilchrist home to help
her stepfather with his house work
In tho absence of her mother who
Is visiting In Texas. Gilchrist at
first Insisted ho had not Been his
stepdaughter, explaining he had
been way from home all evening.
Hours of grilling failed to shake
bis story and he had been placed
In a cell when ho called the off!
cers back with the statement that
he wished to mako a confession.
"Tho Lord ordered me to do It,"
the officers quoted him. He then
offered to accompany tho police to
bla home to re-enact the crime.
