was slipped over during tho last
session in the forest fire laws that
will cost the county some money.
It has developed that a law was
passed roqulring on every steam
engine operating within a certain
distance of any forest land that It
bo equipped with a pump or grav
ity water system and at least 200
feet of hose.
The county operates eight or
nine steam road rollers which are
employed at various times within
tho prescribed distances from for
est lands and as a result It Is pos
sible that each one of these may
have to ho equipped in the manner
provided In tho new law, which
would require a considerable expense.
At any rate the hose salesmen
have started on the trail and the
court expects that the pump sales
men will be next.
The law also compels all steam
engines operating within a certain
distance of forest lands to keep all
ground wllhln a radius of SO foot
of such engines thoroughly soaked
with water at all times, a difficult
thing for a road roller to do.

copalian church of Salem. Bishop
Sumner of the Oregon diocese will
ho present and assist in tho cere
monies. The instrument Of dona
tion, an official parchment signify
ing the giving of the church, en
tirely free from debt, to the Diocese
of Oregon, will bo formally pre
sented, and formally accepted In
behalf of the dioceso by him. The
instrument also guarantees that
