IN OPERETTA AT
III
Chemawa, Ore., June 2. The
operetta "Paul Revere'' was pre
sented to the public in the school
auditorium last evening before a
packed house. The operetta was
well received and was adjudged
to be one of the bent ever present
ed by the school.
The operetta has to do with the
revolutionary war with a very in
teresting love story woven in.
Paul Revere falls in love with the
daughter of a king's man and Is
ordered out of I he house nfter
several calls. Captain ' Marks,
played by (ienrge Flash Is also lu
love with the young lady and
many Interesting events take
place before pa ul Revere wins the
lady's hand.
A vary pretty Indian Suite is
presented before the operetta. All
customs or ceremonials of the In
dian in his primitive state have a
religious fervour. There was in the
Indian a seriousness, a conscious
ness of a Great Spirit, for whom
he had both nwo and reverence.
The suite Is a mental picture of
the Indian Life and rituals.

TO DALLAS CLU
Dalhts, Or., Juno 2, Congress
man W. C. Huwloy spoke Monday
at. the Dallas chamber of com
merce luncheon, taking up the
subject of naticuul taxation and
tiie national budget system.
He stated that during the past
four years reductions amounting
to $6,000,000,000 had been madi
Cioiu the 1020 tax schedule, while
it is anticipated that 300,000,000
more can be lopped off when the
special budget committee meets in
Cctober. This will be taken from
excise and income tax schedules.
In speaking of congressional ex
pense Mr. Ilawley stated that its
salaries end other expresses
amounted to $0,000,000 yearly out
ot $3,300,000 required to run the
government each year. At the
uame time, he estimated, congress
had cut the expenditure requests
in half. Of the present govern-1
nent revenue approximately $1,
400,000,000 yearly goes toward
irterest and retirement of the war
debt.
The government's policy of an
antial retirement fund to take care
of the war debt has brought its
bonds from about St in 1922 to
above our nnd has given it a credit
1 remium on Its currency through
out the world.
