all cherry growers for a meeting
In tho chamber of commerce
rooms on Tuesday evening, Juno 2,
for the put-po.se of taking up tho
brown rot situation.
Mr. Clark is calling the meeting
on tho advice of prominent grow
ers, who declare that the situation
Is so serious there should bo con
certed effort and organized move
ment to meet It hero this year.
Yesterday's rain and hail, prom
inent growers say, did no further
damage- to the cherries than add
to the general brown rot conditions
have been prevailing, the cherries
not being far enough ndvanced to
be damaged by the hall to any ex
tent. Local growers are al.so at a loss
to understand a dispatch from Los
Angeles that cherry fruit fly had
been found In a shipment ofOre
gon cherries there and as a result
a general quarantine had been In
definitely extended against a num
ber of counties in Oregon, includ
ing Marion county. Hueh a quar
antine was put on last year, with
tho general understanding that any
cherries passed by the Inspector
here would bo acceptable in the
California markets. Just what the

derstand as they say it is too early
for the fruit fly todevnlop and tho
situation has more or less mystery

Cherries will go south this year be
cause of tho extremely short crop
and tiie apparent demand in the
east which is promised at big

pany Is taking the building on a

the plant is a cold storage as well

the employes fdeep and the equip
ment the most modern oht ;iluable.
The plant Includes two e.peelallv
constructed nnd equipped cold
ptorage rooms and h la rceholding
room which will be kept at low
temperature at all times.

The basement Is to be used for

The Ityan Fruit company has
been rapidly growing and expand
ing. Last year litis concern mind
led a considerable quantity of green
fruit for shipment. Whether It
will attempt to handle any thin
year Is tint yet known at the local
plant, the decision depending on
market nnd price condition.

burn 40 barrels were run through

80 barrels today. About 50 will
be put up at Albany. For the pres
ent Albany Is handling the Leban
on tonnage for the concern but
the Iebanon plant will open up
Monday.
