Active Week
Today, the ono day In all the
year when the nation rovcra ita
dead, la being fittingly celebrat
ed in Salem. Ono heara practical
ly nothing of any plana for the
week end. Even the coincidence
of two holidays following each
other i not causing a forgetfnll
ness of the oigniflcance of the day
It is passing with the dignity and
calmness that It merits. There are
parades. It la true, but there is
none of the blatancy about tnem
that ono finda in ordinary pitrt
otic parades. Rather a 6pirit of
reverence that is duo the heroes
whom they honor.
Tho coming week. will usher In
the month which universally lias
come to he known as the month
of brides. Ono wonders a bit
whether Salem will have its
quota of June brides. There arc
whispers of several but quecrly
enough September haa always
been a favorito month for won
dings in Salem, Some of tho most

House guests have continued to

week. Mrs. William Kiltz of Van

The Bethel Daughters club was
entertained on Thursday at the
home of Mrs. George Haln. Dur
ing a brief business session it was
planned to hold an all day pic
nic for the June meeting. A pro
gram of music and readings was
given. During the social hour a
number of lovely gifts were show
ered upon Mrs. Cass Nichols and
her very small daughter, Cora
lie. Mrs. John Haln and Mrs. Har
ry Boles assisted Mrs. Haln at the
tea hour.

A beautiful home wedding was
solemnized on Tuesday evening
when Mies Ituth Page and Don
ald Davison were married at the
Portland home of the bride's sis
ter, Mrs. Fred Larulesa, Hev. Ken
ton performed the ring ceremony.

al party entered. Blue candles in
tall candelabra shed a soft glow
over the long room. Miss Lois Nye
played Mendelssohn's wedding
march and Mrs. Kdwln Armstrong
sang ''At Dawning" and "Be
cause."
The bride wore a lovely gown
of whito crepe hack satin with
Viennese laco Her full length
veil was caught with orange blos
soms. She carried a shower boa
nuet of Ophelia roses.
Mifts Catherine Vincent. the
bride's only attendant wore a
frock of burnt orango chiffon
with blue flowers. Her corsnee
was of sweet peaa. Little Donald
Land cfs carried the ring. Edwin
Armstrong acted aa het man.
More than sixty friends of the
young couple witnessed the cere
mony and remained for the for
mal reception that followed. Mrs.
F. Bilyeu presided at the urns
and Mrs. Clarence Eckhart of
Spokane, cut Ices. Assisting about
the rooms were the M tears Row
man, Dibbles, La n dees and Mrs,
Fred Landefw.
The bride'a going away cos
tume was an ensemble of henna
bengaline. Her hat was a blue
poke. After a ehort trip Mr. and
Mrs. Davison will be at home In
Spokane.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Davison are
graduates of Salem high school
and well known in Salem among
the younger Get. Mrs. Davison is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K
Page and Mr. Davison the eon of
Mr. and Mrs. A. 0. Davison.
The rehabilitation committee of
the American Legion auxiliary in
a meeting recently passed a res
clution for a voto of thanks to
the men and women "who so gen
erously donated money and mater
ial for the hospital supplies just
completed, as well as those women
who worked so faithfully making
up tho materials.' The completed
articles have been sent to the
Veterans' hospital In Portland.

their June meeting on Tuesday

Miss Louise Healy, the daugh
ter or Mrs C. J. Healy, has chos
en Thursday, June 4, as the day
ot her wciiding to Eugene Grat-
ton, son ot Mr. and Mrs. A. J,
Gratton of Portland. Tho wed
ding was first planned for June
24 but a promotion necessitates an
earlier sailing date for Mr. Crat
ton who is an officer in the mer
chant marine service.
The wedding will be solemniz
ed at ten o'clock in tho morning
in m. Joseph's Catholic church,
Miss Claudia Gratton of Portlund,
twin sinter of the groom, will be
maid of honor. Paul Green 'of
Portland, who formerly made his
home in Salem, will act as best
man. A wedding break fast for the
bridal party and a few intimate
friends will follow tho ceremony.

Arriving in Los Angeles from
the Islands on May 3 Mira Huckc
stein visited for several days with
friends before going on to Arizo
na where she spent several days
eighisceing in the Grand Canyon
