OF GAS WARFARE
Geneva, Way S Japan went on
record today as favoring a strict
interdiction of the use of poison
gas In war. D. Kutsudit, Japanese
delegate to the league of nations
International conference for the
control In traffic In arms mid mu
nitions, made this declaration In a
speech ardently supporting the
proposal mnde yesterday by Rep
resentative Theodore Burton of
Ohio, had of the American dele
gation, that all export of poison
gas for use In war be prohibited.
The Americnn pro pc sal was re
ferred to two sub-committees, mili
tary and juridical. ' The Polish
amendment condemning the use of
disease bacteria In warfare, was
referred to the same committee.
Matuda said that Japanese ul
rendy Is a party to the poison gns
agreement made during the Wash
ing arms conference and declared
In prohibition the exportation of
poison gnA for war purposes, it
also should be understood that
such methods of warfare are for
bidden by International law. He
urged the legal committee to take
up the aspect of the problem thor
oughly.
Tho Turkish delegation heartily
supported the Americnn proposal,
bul sided with the Hungarian dele
gation that the rights ot states
that do not mon-ifaclure to em
ploy 33 if they nre so nttacked
should be respected.
