To the Kdittr: In one cf your
co ntem porurla of last Sunday we
read the following under the head
of Criticisms of youth In which
they sny "Did It ever occur to
these critics that it has been per
sons of older generations who
wrote the bonks that provide these
entertainments." I suppose this
contempory felt him or herself
greatly relieved of all blame by
laying It up m the bhouldere of
previous generations. The writer
hereof has reached three fourth
of a century and seriously protests
the above sentiments as no psrron
l that time could possibly have
conceived the present mode of en
tertainment. Then this contem
pory says Laws are not enforced
as they should be because they are
entrusted too much to the hands
of those of the older generation
who have not caught the vision of
ur new order bf progress.
'.Veil the older generation were
generally law abiding .Our penal
institutions are filled to overflow
ing and seems to be on the In
crease. What would we de with
the suiplus. It tsays the oldre gen
eration should council tho young
er men nnd women educated In
cur schools and colleges in civic
moral and social righteousness and
compel obeilience to law, 1 sup
pose the last pr.iofrraph in speak
ing of the older generation refers
to the parents and if so we enn
heartily enJorso the sentiments
but it can only be done by cutting
out a lot of curriculum and substi
tuting a spade hoo ax or some oth

nnd public sentiment can do it If
