Berlin, April 29 The historical
tradition by which, since the es
tablishment of the German Reiclwr,
Wilhelms have nlternated with
FredricUs at the head of the state
has been rudely shattered by the
election of Field Marshal Vou Hin
denburg, whose first name is Paul.
Wllhclm I, who founded the em
pire in 1870, was succeeded by his
son, Friedrlchs, and he, in turn,
una succeeded hy Wlholm II. Hnd
the Hohenzollerna remained In

would have continued the tradition
both in his own case, and that of
his first born son, Wilhetm.
By a singular coincidence Wil

collapse of tho monarchy was
President Fredrlch Ebert and
many republican enthusiasts pre
dicted the victory of Wilhelin

section. It was operated strictly
along the lines laid down by the
government controlling licensed
distilleries In the pre-Volstead
days, even to the mlnute.it detail
ot filtering. All ot the parapher
nalia was of highest class quality
for this kind of work, declare the
oflcers, and the entire operations
were carried on with a cloanlinoss
and magnitude which amazed
them, they assert.
Seized In the operations were
the following:
Five hundred twenty-five pint
bottles.
16 aacks of berry sugar.
32 sacks of corn sugar.
5 60 gallon drums ot coal oil.
7M sacks ot cracked corn.
1 pump complete,
1 steam boiler.
4500 gallons of mash.
110 gallon Jugs full of whiskey.
400 pints of whiskey In bottles.
1 10 gallon keg of whiskey.
The still Itself was ot 250 gal
lon capacity and 16 huge wood
en vats were used in connection
with the distillery operntlons. Al
though the plant In which the
still was located was in direct
view from the road, officers say
nevertheless that the moonshiners
could havo searched tho state for
more Ideal scene for their op
erations and would not have
found It.
According to the officers the
entire product of the still went
to Portland, supplies being
nrougnt in from Portland In a
truck at night and the finished
imuuuui sent pock on mo same
truck
Officers state that the still prob

The charge against Walker Is pos

charges against each of the three.
The still waa located on Walker's

paid to allow It to operate there.
It Is believed Andrews, Dickson

of the big plant, were only wage
workers, and that they were In
tha pay or a "higher up" else
where. They have retained an

der a state law enacted at the

from outalde the district will be

expense of giving Instruction,
plus depreciation on school build
ings. Heretofore the depreciation
has not been taken Into consid
eration. Coach Problem TTd
Attention was drawn to the
question of securing an athletic
coach for the local high school
when a report was brought from
student sources to the effect that
the high school student council
had definitely decided against
paying any part ot the coach's
salary. During the present year
is being paid Mollis Hunt
ington from the student body
treasury. Huntington has declar
ed himself willing to coach ath
letics again under the same ar
rangement. The student council.
however, has left the matter en
tirely to the board, deciding that
whatever salary Is paid the coach
must come eutirely from school
districtsources. It became obvious
last night that tho board would
like to continuo the present ar
rangement another year. Mem
bers ot the board felt that they
were not Justified In making a di
ect appropriation of the peoples
money tor coaching. At the same
tlme they folt that one not paid
better than an ordinary teacher
In the school system would possi
bly prove unsatisfactory, Superln
endent Hug was directed to take
the matter up further with tho
students, and report at next
meeting. ,
One argument advanced In fav
or of the present system was that
high clara coach, turning out
inning teams and arranging
good schedules, would have the
effect ot adding enough to stu
dent body to pay the money re
quired for the coach. Last night's
report showed that during tho
present school year no branch ot
athletics except basketball baa
paid enough to cover the coach's
oalary, "
