VETERINARIANS
Falls Evening Herald. The old
Hilt hotel, its annex, the hospital
belonging to the Fruit Growers
Supply company, an apartment
house and the P. W. Foster resi
dence were completely destroyed
at an approximate loss of $50.
000. Many -of the employes of the
company lost their entire per
sonal effects. .
PLAN FOR 2 DAY
Veterinarians ot the county
have been called by the county
court to meet Rt the court bouse
here at 10 o'clock on the morn
ing of May 4 to discuss with the
court the enforcement of the new
county herd inspection low which
becomes effective on May 28.
Up to date there have been four
candidates for appointment ae
county herd inspectors, these In
eluding Orj. W. G. Morehouse of
Balem, Dr. G. P. Korlnk ot Stay-
ton, Dr. A. W. Simmons of Silver
ton and Dr. Thomas Sim ma of
Woodburn.
According to the tentative plan
now In mind the court will sug
gest to the veterinarians that the
county be divided Into four in
spection districts and that each
veterinarian have charge of the
district in which he resides. The
luw provides an inspection ot all
dairy animals at least once a year,
these animals to ho submitted to
tuberculin tests. The veterinarian
is to be naid as ttie county directs,
but not to exceed $10 a day. He
may have as many deputies as the
court may cara to allow, but these
deputies are to he paid at a rate
Lot to exceed that paid to veteri
narian. It is believed there would
te no difficulty in dividing the
county under the law as now pro-
nosed and by such division the
court feels thct the law could be
carried out as intended, with
complete tet ol all animals cov
ered by the law, once a year.
Teachers of the county have de
cided to hold a two-days annual
institute In Salem next year under
a new law going Into effect pro
viding that either one day or two
day institutes may be held,. At
tendance on this institute will be
compulsory on all county teachers.
The past year there has been no
such Institute, the teachers at
tending local Institutes In the
various districts. It Is eipected
at the annual Institute some
particularly strong speaker will be
secured "i It Is planned to make
It a record affair.
According to reports more than
the usual number ot teachers in
the county schools are planning to
attend summer school this year,
some going to the university, some
to the college, some to the normal
school and others planning to at
tend summer school at Institutions
outside of the state.

"Sh told him a sscraf aha Jsarnsd' ram hr fmthv"
Ever try these?
They were engaged and were talking about
rather personal things which is probably at it
should be.
He had remarked that sometimes his dgars and
cigarettes tasted sour not just right.
Then she told him about a little trick ahe knew
from having observed her father, who was quite
a heavy smoker. That was, eating Life. Savers be
tween smokes. And she offered him some from s
packs ge ahe had just opened.
He tried them and has been using Life Savers
this way ever since.
s "
It's s fact: Life Savers, those dctkious little candy
mints with the bole, easily double your smoke enjoy
ment. Their wonderful aromatic flavors freshen your
mouth like a good drink of water when you're really
thirsty.
Once you try them this wsy between smokes,
you 11 always have a package handy.
Six flavors are displayed at ad good stares so you
msy help yourself: Pcp-o-mmt. Wait-ogreenv Cmn-o-mon,
