Henning, assistant secretary of

a federal judge In the southern
California district. Mr. Henning
will succeed former Judge Bledsoe,
who recently resigned.
No announcement was made at
the White House as to whom the
president has in mind as a sue
cefsor for Mr. Henning in the la-
Dor department. He has been
urged by Sonntor Cummins and
members of the Iowa congressional
delegation to appoint former Rep
resentative Hull, republican,' Iowa
to tiie post.

Ford Air Service Inaugurated
Tho first real Rtep forward In commercial aviation was made when
the Maiden Dearborn, the first of Henry Ford's all-metal airplanes,
bopped off from Dearborn Field, Detroit, Michigan, laden with
thousand pounds of freight, tor Chicago. The Maiden Dearborn was
piloted by Edward O. Hamilton, with Harry Russell as mechanic The
plane Is the first of a projected fleet of all-metal ships which will main
tain a regular air service between Chicago and Detroit. Ford has an
nounced that as soon as the Chicago-Detroit service is In full swing
three new services would be started, one to operate to St. Louie an
other to Iron Mountain, Mich., and the third to Minneapolis and St.

test. Dates have not been set for
either the county or state meets.
CHINA WILL RESUME
PAYMENTS TO FRANCE
Paris, April ii. Offiical circles
declared that China's agreement
to resumep ayment of the Boxer
indemnity to France will greatly
facilitate ratification by the
French parliament of the nine
power treaty signed at the Wash
ington conference. The agreement
was eigned a week ago yesterday.
The other eight signatories rati
fied the nine power treaty.

The blase itself, the mine men
believe, waa confined to the lower
piirt of the main abaft and with

ported that damage might be held
to a nominal amount,

workings where the four men are
believed to bo Imprisoned Is
through the Hecla mine proper.
The present levels in the Star
ground are far below the old Star
workings, developed before the
property waa taken over by tha
Hecla com pan and its tunnel was
extended Into the Star claim, and
there Is no connection between
them.
The entrapped men might have

in the direction of the main shaft,
it was stated, and finding their

While they might succeed in
