Josephine Sellberger, a bride
In May, 1919, married to Maryln
Sellberger In Hungary, preferred
to remain at the home of her
mother In Hungary to sharing
her husband's lot cast In a new

eyes across the Atlantic to a new

day In circuit court. Sellberger
declares tbat all he says In his

Eugene, Or., April 15. The
third biennial national convention
of .he Associated Women Students
will open here this morning, with
registration from 8:30 to 10, and
the first business association from
10 to 12. - Delegates began arriv
ing yesterday afternoon, however,
and many were registered at once.
Directories, with the name of
the delegate, the school she rep
resents ,and where she Is stuying
on the campus, will be posted In
the phone booth of each woman s
organization, so that Inquiries may'
be easily answered. -
Forty-four schools will be rep-1
resented at this conference, in
cluding most of the universities
and colleges west of the Appa
lachian mountins, many of the in
stitutions sending two or three
girls.
This evening a dinner will be
given in the Woman's building,
and will be, followed by "stunt"
night. Sentiment for the whole
week Is to make the delegates feel
as much at home as possible, and
the welcoming committee has ask
ed that everyone on the campus
renew the Oregon "hello, espe
cially for the ffitetfl.

Orein Pioneer Dead.
La Granite, Or., April 14. John
Pravley, 76, a pioneer of eastern
Oregon, died Tuesday morning.
He was treasurer of Union county
for 24 years, resigning in 1922 be
cause of 111 health. He was con
ductor on the first railroad train
to come Into La Grande in 1884.
A few years later he was injured
in a railroal accident In Washing,
ton, ciuslng bis retirement from

pected to return to the prison to
day after having been allowed by
Governor fierce to spend the Jew
ish Passover week at their homes
In Portland. The two were sen
tenced to serve two and a halt
years in the penitentiary tor re
ceiving stolen goods In Portland.
Harry Goldstein wee given a day's
leave ot absence about two weeks
ago so that he might attend the
chrlsteaing ot a newly-arrived
babe at his home in Portland.
Governor Pierce explained to
day that while the Goldsteins and
their friends have guaranteed that
the two will return to the state
prison, the release ror the week Ik
on hia own responsibility. The
governor said tbe attorney general
bad ruled that the state executive
has authority to grant such leaves
of absence and that It Is In tbe
nature ot a reprieve.
