HARDING MEMORIAL
STAMPS IN DEMAND
Washington, March 24. Sales
of the new Harding 1-cent post
age stamp and the new lc-cent en
velope on March 19, the first day
of their offering at the postoffice
department's philatelic agency
amounted to $2446, representing
about 150,000 pieces. The Bales
were to stamp collectors who
bought n blocits of aix, twelve,
ar.d even 100. Many asked that
1 -cent Washington etampled en
velopes, bearing in addition 1
cent Harding stamps of the three
methods of manufacture coil, ro
tary press and flat bred press be
mailed to them so as to hear the
cancellation date of the firat day
of sale.

Salem today when C. Smeltzen al
lowed It to be known that near
midnight Friday night he was
stopped near Turner by two police
officers who heard his load of milk
bottles jingling. After a thorough
search for stronger liquor the of
ficers allowed Smeltzen to deliver
his milk unmolested.
