Kamon De Santa Clara, sometimes
Rafael De Santos, and again just
1L De S, but internationally
kuown as the "Spanish prisoner,"
at last haa been jailed. His a treet
ended fifty year poiice hunt and
is said to have given the swindle
story he told its first element of
truth.
A report to the state depart
ment said the "general" had been
appreheuded in Madrid and wa?
for the first time in his career
actually a prisoner. The records
in the case, as reported from time
to time, show that he victimized
many Americans by hie swindle
scheme despite publicity during
the years he operated.
The Spanish prisoner' posed
as a bankrupt, Imprisoned on that
charge, and possessing a fortune
of $360,000 in American money
concealed somewhere in a port
manteau with a Becret pocket.
From persons who offered to as
sist him in the recovery of his for
tune on promise ot a reward of
$120,000, with a ceh advance
from the victim always stipulated,
he is alleged to have reaped a for
tune tor himself.
CITY SELLS LAST
A resolution authorizing sale
of the last lot in Oaks addition
was parsed at the city council
meeting last night. J. B. Young ie
the purchaser. Mayor j. B. Glesy
remarked in pawing the measure
that this was the third time the
"lust" lot had been sold, hut as
surances were given by Alderman
L. J. Simeral, chairman of the
ways and means committee, that
this was. in truth, the lat. The
next tn the last lot was author
lee it sold to J. L. Cunningham.
Title to the Oaks addition re
verted to the city several years
ago when the subdividing owners
failed to meet assessments against
the property made by the city of
Salem tor paving of the streets.
The property was taken over by
the city, and sales have been con
summated by the ways and means
committee by approval of the
couucil until the last portion of
the addition bas been sold.

The Goats team displayed fact
floor work during the entire
game. Excellent toam work and
shooting wag also a feature of the
Goats offense. A teturn game will
