M FAILURE
ASSERTS HUNT
The present system of licensing
dof.s has been a failure, according
to County Judge J. T. Hunt and
step should be taken at the pres
ent legislature to remedy the er
rors or tho present law. He states
the idea Is all right and there
should be protection from sti?cp
Killing uogs, but the present
melhcd is cumherson, in that it
costs more to collect the licence
fees and pay for the sheep kil'f )
than is realized from the funl
raised.
"When the licence law firV.
went Into effect licenses were
pretty well paid up. but they have
dropped off and last year it was
necessary to hire a special man to
collect the licenses," stated Judge
Hunt. "I am in favor of a license
on dogs for the purpose ot reim
bursing owners of sheep killed by
siicep Killing canines.
'The change I propose Is to tm
pose the same license tee as now, I
but at the end of 60 days from tho
time collection starts, all who have
not purchased license will be sub-1
ected to a double license fee. Tiis
would be an enforceable provision
and I am certain result In people
ltb dogs hurrying in to pay their
license fees before the double .1-
ense was imposed.
' Under the present law a fine
of 1 10 may ..e assessed against
hose not paying their license fee.
but such a fine under conditions
surrounding collection ot llccunc
taxes, Is practically impossible of
collection over the county.
