The annual Penitentiary show
a feature at the state prison for
years, will be presented to the
puunc on the nights ot January
27 to 31. Inclusive.
This year, according to advance
reports, the show will be much
more pretentious than In the nut
The population at the penitentiary
now inciuaes several men who
have had vaudeville experience,
and a wide variety of instrumental
music, tongs and burlesque has
been promised.
Special attention hat been given
the scenery for the thow. Ex
perienced scene paintors and dec
orators have been busy for the
past month on the various sets snd
curtains, to that the scenery will
be, for the most part, entirely
new.
The Follies of lt24, as the pro
duction will be known, Is cast en
tirely ot institutional talent, and
is directed by an Inmate who has
a wide and varied career In the
show business. Patrons of former
years will note the prcscuce of
many new faces In the show. al.
though there are several In the
cast this year who have helped to
make former prison shows suc
cessful.
Variety Is the keynote of the
prison show this year. For those
who like late popular music,
served up a la Jan style, there
will be a seven-piece Jais orches
tra. All the music Is late and
snappy and the songs are harmon
ious. The comedy acts are of the
rapid-fire variety, ar.d the lines
are clean. A three-act burlesque
will prove to be a very popular
feature, although this particular
stunt Is at present shrouded In
deep mystery. It will have to be
seen to he fully appreciated.
The show will close with a
humorous presentation of a prison
scene. This particular act was
especially popular with the publl
last year.
Tickets for the performance are
now on sale at Perry's drug store,
Salem. All seats will be reserved.
The show, which will be held In
the penitentiary auditorium, will
start promptly at 8:15 p. m. each
evening.
