"The Charm School" has been se
lected by the ueiUor class of the
high school as the class play to be
give a during commencement wet:k
in June. Sixteen members of the
class will take part in the play
which has been declared suitable
to the talent available as well a&
being a clever comedy.
DEBATERS HARD AT WORK

though the debate team has not
been chosen from the high school
as yet Miss Lucille Tucker, head
of the public speaking department,
with a squad of debaters are
spending the day In the state li
brary In Salem studying Tor the
debate scheduled with McMinu-
ville for April 29. The debate
question will be concerning soviet
government In Russia. The team
will be chosen from Irene Rlechel,
Daryl Reichel, Betty Balllio, Fern
Tweedy and Jack Meiser.

the high school ban been going on
this week. Yesterday they were
rolling the field and- It Is said to;

although the weather has retarded

Achor of her many visits to Hull
house In Chicago were of chief in
terest at the meeting of the wom
an's aid society of the First Pres
byterian church Wednesday after
noon- Mrs. Achor studied at the
Moody Bible Institute and during
that time visited among the imml
grants studying conditions. Mri.
J. H. Mack was hostess for the
meeting of the eighteen women
and later served a lunch with the
assistance of her daughter, M.b.
Esther Moon. The budget system
of handling finances was discussed
during the business session.

gon Agricultural college-, waa the
main speaker for a special assem
bly at the high school early this
afternoon President Korr touch
ed on the problems of higher edu
cation. He will speak this evening
at the O. A. C. club banquet.
PAST MATRONS ENTERTAIN
Woodburn, Or., March 21. The
past matrons club was hostess the
first of the- week for a social aft
ernoon inviting the eight members
of the Gcrvais past matrons club
as special guests. The women who
attended from Gorvaia were Mrs.
M. 0, Henning, Mrs. Sam Brown,
Mrs. Booster, Miss Stevens and
Mrs. James Imlah. Sixteen wom
en enjoyed the afternoon whicJi
was entirely social after a short
business session at which Mrs. E.
E. Settlemeter presided. Lunch
was served later in the afternoon
in the Masonic temple rooms where
the meeting was held.

city council was called Wednesday
night by Mayor John Porter for
the purpose of considering, ordi
nances and general business.
A bond ordinance tor $7645.57,
street Improvement bond was In
troduced and read for the first
time. This was adopted and the
recorder was instructed to Issue a
call for blda for the bond issue.
The bids are to be opened at 3
o'clock p. m,, March 31.
Chairman of parks, C. J. Cooler,
presented his report of the land
scape gardener from the Oregon
Agricultural college relative to the
laying out and beautifying of the
park. He advocated building
fence along the northerly end of
the park, planting native shrubs
along this, making of driveways
or paths allowing no vehicles
within the park, cutting out the
smalt firs and most of the oak
trees which obscure the hill In the
background. The matter ot In
