Miss Olga Gray was a hostess Thursday evening, entertaining with a pre-Christmas party for a group of girls, who form a small sewing club. They are: Misses Vi vian Hargrove, Irene Curtis. Clara Breitenstein, Marie Mar shall, Grace Holt and Miss Gray. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Philliber of Portland will arrive in the city tomorrow, to remain over Christ mas with Mrs. Phllliber's moth er Mrs. A.. Klein. The. latter will also have with her over the week end her sister, Mrs. Ethel McCoy also of Portland. Y. W. C. A. Announce Open House The social committee of the Y W. C. A. announces the keeping 01 Open House," for members and friends on New Year's day, the hours to be from three to six o'clock. Miss Marion Wyman of Lincoln, Nebraska, the new gen eral secretary is expected to ar rive on that date, and so the af fair will be something in the na ture of a welcome to her. During the hours there will be a program and punch and wafers will be served. - The suggestion is made by the members of the social committee that all who call, and who are in a position to do so, bring with them a book to donate to the as sociation library. Bibles are needed especially, so that all tho girls who attend Miss Nina Mc Nary'g Bible study classes may be supplied. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Gray and daughter Olga, will go to Cottage Grove today to be away until af ter Christmas with relatives. m a Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Kerron of Portland are here for the holi days, and are being entertained as the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Lee Steiner. Miss Margaret Griffith is home troiS the University of Oregon, and is spending the vacation per iod with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. L. F. Griffith. Miss Pearl McGregor of Seat tle will arrive this evening and will remain during the holidays with her mother and sister, Mr. Arthur Benson. Mrs. Charles H. Robertson was a Portland visitor during the mi-1 week, returning home Thursday evening. Judge and Mrs. George H. Bur nett will leave for Hood River Sunday to be away over the Christ mas holiday period with relatives Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. Huelat. Miss Dean Hatton, a student at Willamette university, has gone to Spokane to spend the vacation period with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hall will iro to Portland tomorrow where they will spend -Christmas with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Walker rowell and their children of Woodburn, will spend the Christ mas week end with Mrs. Powell'? parents, Judge and Mrs. George G. Bingham. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Nady of Pasco, Wash., will reach Salem tomorrow, and will spend Christ mas with Mr. and Mrs. C. II. Carson and Mrs. Frederick It. Thompson, heading the commit tees in charge of the Red Cross seal sale, express themselves as most gratified over the returns from the pre-Christmas sale. How ever, it is their opinion that when the public becomes fully educated as to the use of th'i money thus derived, and learn of the quite remarkable preventitivc work possible through this effort, that the demand for stamps will be many times greater than it now is. For notwithstanding the quite widespread publicity given the matter, in country communi ties and suburban districts of the bigger cities folk are still far from being well informed. Miss Beryl Holt Is in charge of the Christmas pageanc to be put on at the First Methodist church Sunday night. "The World's Christmas Mail," has been chos en, with Mrs. Edwin Socolofsky taking a leading part. ' Mr. and Mrs. William Brown are expecting to have with them as their Christmas guests, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Eldridge and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Prael of Portland. Alumni Is To Sponsor Big Affair Everything is in readiness for the first big social affair to be sponsored by the Marlon county alumni association of the Univer sity of Oregon. It is to be a danca, and will take place this evening in Elite "hall. Nearly two hundred invitations have been issued, these going to members of the organization residing in Marion county. And aside from these it is expected that about sixty stu dents from Eugene will come up for the event, including represen tatives of the Oregon Knights. Special yuletide decorations will be employed, and featuring the program, which begins at half past eight o'clock, will be musical high lights and details of unusual interest and attract iveness. The following have been asked to preside as patrons and patron esses: Mayor-elect and Mrs. John B. Giesy, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Hendricks, Judge and Mrg. Law rence T. Harris, Dr. and Mrs. W. Carlton Smith, Superintendent and Mrs. George W. Hug and Su perintendent and Mrs. ... J, A. Churchill. The committees in charge of the various details are headed by; Dwight Parr, Jack Elliott, Carl Gabrielson, Marie Churchill, Ag nes Driscoll and Ruth Austin. H. H. Darby. The annual Christmas Cradle roll party of the First Methodist church was held Thursday af ternoon in Epworth hall, with a large number of mothers and their very small children present.
