McClelland advised all council
men to request residents of their
respective wards to telephone the
light company whenever lights ar
extinguished.
The council agreed' to pay for
electricity used in a cluster light
to be installed at the Webb morgue
at the corner of Church and Ferry
streets. '
Councilman' Henry Vandevort
chairman of a special committee
named to investigate alleged
frauds perpetrated by certain Sa
lem merchants, requested and was
granted another two weeks in
which to probe. It has been diffi
cult to secure information regard
ing the reported cases, he said.
Committee Is Continued.
A request of Alderman Giesy,
chairman of a special committee
appointed to investigate the feasi
bility of installing improved gar
bage destroying facilities, asked
that the matter be continued for
further investigation. Incinera
tors, such as are used in Portland,
have been found to be more or less
unsatisfactory, he said, and the
members of the committee did not
wish to make a definite recom
mendation until a further probe
had been made. More time was
granted the investigators,
Two stores in the vicinity ot the
fair grounds held the attention of
the council for several minutes
"might. It was the opinion of
certain aldermen-among them
Councllmen A. H. Moore and Hal
Patton that a communication,
requesting these stores to close on
Sunday-should be addressed the
ownei.a. The move was fought by
Aldermen George Wenderoth, Jas.
McClelland and A.. F. Marcus,
however, and the motion received
no second.
FILMS SUPPORT
ALLEGED FRAME UP
Paris, Dec. 19. A close study
of the film of the Carpentier-Siki
tight shows that Francois Des
camps, manager of the French
boxer, went to Siki's corner in the
fourth round and Bald something
to Hellers, the Senegalese's mun
ager, according to a story printed
by L'Auto today. The journal re
calls that according to Siki's al
legations it was in the fourth
round that the negro had arranged
to allow himself to be beaten. .
Vice-President Boubariat of the
boxing commission, in an inter
view with L'Auto, said that for
the manager of one boxer to talk
to the manager of another while
a bout was in progress constituted
a very serious, fault.
