BT MARY BROOKS PICKEN
KNITTED fabrics are finding a
new and delightful use in
frocks for juniors this season, sup
planting to a certain degree the
wash materials that .are generally
considered synonymous with chil
dren's garments.
Nary Jersey fashions the little
frock at the left, which might be
termed as a glorified middy style,
for its long waist portion attached
with a wide tuck to the straight
plaited skirt carries the sugges
tion of a separate blouse.
Much of the interest of this cos
tume is bound to center in the
veatee, collar, and cuffs of bright
red Jersey, the gay colored peas
ant embroidery on the vestee per
haps proving the most fascinating
note of all.
Knitted silk, a firmly-woven
tricolette, was the selection made
for the bloomer dress. Although
little different in design from
bloomer dresses that have been
popular for some time, this little
model achieves marked distinction
In its color, a soft, medium green
contrasted with bindings and un
derarm lacings of navy blue braid.
Traffic policemen in Washington,
D. C, are forbidden to "bawl out"
offending motorists.

DESPITE LAWS
Chicago, Nov. 6 (By the Asso- i
dated Pros) Despite tlio passage of ,
numerous ordinances end the adopt-, ,
ion of traffic regulations in the .
larger cities of the fo:Jitry in an '
effort to curb accident from motor '
cars, reports from more than a dozen
of the metropolitan cities of the
middle-west show an increase in the
number of acijdehts for the first
six months of 1922, compared witJ
the same period of 1921.
This increase has caused city offi
cials to proscribe drastic rules in -governing
motor traffic in an en- ''
deavor to lessen danger in modern
traveling. Several of the cities are
shown to be waging war on the '
speeder, in many cases imprison- '
ment being added to fines by muni
cipal Judges. Adoption of rules in
turning at etreet intersections, clim-
(nation of glaring headlights and
educational campaigns are other 1
methods used in many cities In the
campaign against accidents.
In Chicago in 1921, deaths attrib
uted to motor accidents totalled 57S
as compared with. 475 in 1920. Non
fatal accidents totaled 8,657 in 1921
and 7,085 in 1920. During the first
four months or "1922, non-fatal ac
cidents totaled 2,533.
Forty-three persons were killed
and 1,055 injured in automobile ac-
cidents in Cleveland from Fehruary
1, to August 1, 1922. To offset this,
workhouse sentences have been im
posed upon speeders and reckless
drivers, no one under 18 years of
age. may drive a ear and second of
fense for failure to have lights burn
ing results in arrest, no matter what
the circumstances.
To curb accidents in fit Louis,
where sixty-two were killed during
the first six months of thia year
and 1327 were injured, an educa
tional campaign has been started,
oue-way traffic ha been established
in congested districts during busi
ness hours, automobiles must come
to complete stop at all boulevards,
must not pose a street car dis-.
charging passengers and must not
exceed eight miles an hour in the
congested districts and twenty miles
in the residential districts.
