WHITES LOSE BY
OUSTING OF JAPANESE
Yakima, Wash., Oct. 21. If
members of the Wapato post of
the American Legion continue
their efforts to hare the Japan
ese barred from the rich lands of
the Indian reservatalon, Wapato
business men and bankers will
lose about $250,000, Frank Jtow,
secretary of the Japanese asso
ciation there, told them at the
conference held last night, at
tended by practically all the post
members. It was not that the
Japanese would not pay but that
they could not, he said.
The Japanese, after two un
profitable years, aro now obli
gated to the white men to that ex
tent, Itow explained, and will be
utterly unable to pay If they are
driven from the reservation. The
conference was called because of
the recent ruling by Secretary of
the Interior A. B. Fall, which not
only prohibits the Japanese from
leasing lands but ousts them as
farm laborers.
