A pitiful error made by Johnnie Humphreys in the first bait of the tnth cost the Senators their chance and let In the winning store. Johnnie let a nice little -rounder roll peacefully between bis legs, repeated the performance two minutes later and sot Base In bad bole. It was a matter of over-confidence on the part of the Salem player. SALEM SPENDS QUIET FOURTH; NO ACCIDENTS With hundreds of persons out of the city, Salem spent a quiet Fourth of July. Despite the fact that no cele bration was held here, large quan tities of firecrackers ana otner fireworks were disposed of by Sa lem youngsters, but no accident of any consequences were reported during the day. With Silverton and Woodburn formally celebrating, scores of Sa lem cars left for these towns early in the morning and late last night tbe roads to Salem were lined with machines returning. Many other Saleraites went to the coun try for the day. SPEEDER IS ASSESSED $25 C. H. Shutt of Salem was sen tenced to pay a fine of $25 when he pleaded guilty to a charge of speeding before Judge Earl Race in the police court Monday. Shutt was arrested several days ago by Motorcycle Parrent. He paid bis fine.
