NORTH DAKOTANS
OF BOTH PARTIES
Fargo, N. D., June 28, (Br
Associated Press) With candi
dates endorsed by the non-parti-'"
san league seeking nomination
on both tickets, republican anil
democratic voters of North Dako
ta went to the polls , today to ,
make . nominations for United
States senator, congressmen, stats,-,
officers and legislative and coun
ty posts.
First Interest centered in the
contest for renotnlnatlon ot Sena- .
tor Porter I. McCumber, chair
man of the senate finance com-:
rolttee, who is opposed for the re
publican endorsement by Lynn J.
Frailer, former governor and
non-partisan league choice, and'
Ormsby McHarg, one time private
secretary to McCumber. The re
turns are not expected to be de
cisive until tomorrow. '
Senator McCumber has declar- '
ed publicly for the renomlnation
of Governor R. A. Nestos, Inde
pendent, who was chosen In the
recall election last fall whan Gov'
ernor Lynn J. Frailer and two
other league endorsed state offi
cials were deposed. This was de
clared to have added strength to
McCumber, although he was not
endorsed by the Independent re-:
publican state convention. ..
One of the important factors in
the league campaign, In the view
of its leaders, has been the work
of A. C. Townley, founder . and
first president, who has gone
from town to town quietly lining
up the leaguers and attempting
to reestablish their precinct or- '
ganization that was so effective,
in many elections.
Independent republican and in
dependent democratic candidates
are opposed all down the Una by
league endorsed candidates.
It Is the first time the leaguers
have entered the democratic pri
maries, and republicans expect -
this action will cut down the In
dependent republican vote, as in
previous elections ieny demo
crats admittedly kve cast their
ballots for the Independent repub
licans in contests against league '
men.
