OFBLOSSOMDAY
- nulla. Or.. April 21. Dallas
will take part In the Blossom day
to be held at Salem--that It as far
s acting In a spirit of co-opera
lion la concerned.
At a meeting of the elrectors of
-the Commercial club held In their
rooms Wednesday evening, this
action was decided upon after a
lengthy discussion of the subject
from each and every angle.
N. L. Guy, president of the
club, appointed a committee of
three to take up the matter with
the commercial club of Salem and
' ascertain In what manner the two
' counties could work In unison. H
A. Joslln. H. H. Rich and C. B
Sundberg comprise this commit
tee. The idea Is to gather to
. gether a goodly bunch of auto
mobiles from Dallas and adjacent
communities on the day of the big
event Is to be held and organize a
caravan to visit that city. These
. automobiles will be gaily decor-
atcd with appropriate banners and
pennants notifying the Salem visl-
' tnra that Dallas 1b the prune cen
, ter of the universe the hub of
Polk county and inviting them to
. take a trip across "the bridge of
slie" and see the thousands of
prune trees in full blossom, and
also visit Polk county. These autos
' will be put In use by those having
the Interest of the county at heart
and the ride will cost the visitors
nothing. Knowing Blossom day
to be strictly a Salem custom nun
institution It is not the Intention
of the members of the Dallas Com
mercial club to Infringe upon Sa
lem's tirereaulsltes In any manner.
. Several matters were brought
up at the meeting the condition
of many of the residential streets
of Dallas receiving special consid
eration and creating considerable
discussion. It was explained to
the directors by one of the city
councllmen that everything possi
ble was being done and had been
done In road matters.

DALLAS LOOKING
FOR INCREASE IN
BUILDING
TRAD
E
Dallas, Or., April 21. It the
weather la favorable and the fruit
crop prospects are good following
the blossoming period, it is fully
expected that 100 new dwellings
will be erected in Dallas this year.
A good start has been made, tak
ing into consideration the back
ward season and the consequent
uncertainty as to the fruit crop
In nearly every section of Dallas
one or more new buildings are un
der way. Most of these structures
are of the ultra-modern type, with
built-in conveniences and other
features that delight the modern
housewife.
There are few really modern
buildings in Dallas for sale. Even
those of a style of several years
ago find a ready sale at t good
valuation. This makes it possible
to build and get Just what Is want
ed at a little greater cost than Is
Involved in the buying of an old
dwelling. But tue real reason tor
the building boom is a shortage of
houses. This shortage bas handi
capped local Industries. High
grade mechanics brought here
from the cities to work were not
satisfied with the dwellings that
could be procured and declined In
many instances to remain. They
Insisted that their families be
comfortably bouBed. If all, oi
nearly all, of the prospective
building is done, there will be
plenty of houses to accommodate
such newcomers during the com
ing year. But even with 100 new
houses there will be none vacant.
Industrial conditions are on the
mend, and more and more men
will be employed In Dallas.
