ATINDEPENDENCE Independence, Or., April The principals of the railoua high chooU of Polk county met in the Independence grade acbool 01 Saturday, March 25, for the pur pose of organizing a county ath letlc association, appointing C. V Byern. principal of the independ ence school, as chairman. Polk Mnuntv Athletic association was the came adopted by the new organization. The Idea seemed to prevail that the county should be divided Into two clause!,' vis., elementary grades and high school grades. The chairman was authorized to appoint a committee of three mem bers, together with the county su perlntendent, Josiah Wills, to work out rules and regulations lor the field meet which is to be held In this city on Saturday, May 20 Last year the meet was held In Dallas, but this will be the first meet held In Polk county under the standard athletic association, The chairman appointed the following committee to draft rules and regulations for the new asso ciation: L. L. Godlng , J. A. Grif fin, O. D. Byers and Joslah Wills. The following rules and regula tions were reoprted by this com mittee: Lot 1, for girls under 100 pounds Class 1. 50 yard dash, class 2, 100-yard dash; class 3, baseball throw tor distance. Lot 2, for girls over 100 pouurla Class 1, 60-yard dash; class 2, 100-yard dash; class 3, baseball throw for distance. Lot 3. for boys under 100 pounds-Class I, 50-yard dash class 2, running high Jump; cIiish 3. running brosd Jumpj class 4. 440-yard relay race. Ia1 4, forlxrys over 100 pounds Class 1, 70-yard dash; class 2, . running broad Jump; class 3, 100 yard dash; class 4, running high jump; class S, 880-yard relay racs. , Lot 5, high school (all weight?) -Class 1, 60-yara aasn; eu 100-ynrd dash; class 3, 220-yard run: class 4, 120-yard hurdle raw (10 hurdles); class 6, relay race (each boy to run 440 yards) ; clans t, running high Jump; class 7. putting 12-pound shot; class 8, running broad Jump; class 9, pole vault; cluss 10, discus throw (dis tance). According to the rules adopted first place scores five points, sec ond Diace two points and third placs one point. Lot Class 1, tennis for sin gles (girls) ; class 2, tennis for singles (boys); class 3, tennis for doubles (girls); class 4, tennis for doubles (boysj. Only three contestants (except tennis and relay races, which will be limited to one team) for each event can enter from any one school.' The school which make the highest number of points will be given a pennant. One of th pennants will be given for the elementary grades and one for the high school division.
