having left Grants Pass after
breakfast In their auto enroute
to Portland from California. They
reported the roads in good coadi
tion the entire distance, the
worst section being that entering
Salem, where the Pacific highway
is being paved and detours are
necessitated.
As a result of misinformation,
prizes given to certain Rebekah
lodges were Incorrectly announc
ed In a recent issue of the Capital
Journal, it was stated. The City
View Rebekah lodge, No. 79, of
Uev. W. T. Milliken, pastor of
the Baptist church In Salem, has
returned from Oregon City where
he went to attend the funeral of
Private Arthur Schwerin who
was killed while in the service of
his country at Prance. Rev.
Milliken also visited his son, Wes
ley Milliken, at Willamette.

Buffalo, N. Y., May 21. Twen
ty men, masked and armed, held
up a freight train on the Sanborn
branch of the New York Central
railroad near North Tonawanda
early today and carried away
silks, shoes, clothing, automobile
tires and other freight estimated
to be worth $70,000.
, The train was held for halt an
hour, half the bandits covering
the crew and railroad detectives
with weapons, while the others
loaded the goods Into six motor
trucks. The bandits headed tor
