iUn Endeavor society of this city held
meeting a few evenings ago at Wol
ter'a springs. After supper was served
the Endeavor tninpacted business mat
ter. The outstanding: features of the
business session were the two resigna
tions of Gertrude Chamberlain as
president and Josephine Chamberlain
ma scretary. Because of the fact that
the resignations were made necessary
fcjr reason of a change of residence,
fher were aocepted. Miss Lois Melvln
was elected as president and Lenore
Walker was electer as secretary. After
the adjournment of the business ses
sion the remainder of the evening was
pent in playing games.
Thelma France and Elsie Nice have
fceen employed in the Woodburn can
nery, which is now in operation.
Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Hershberger of
Seaside have been visiting In the city
with friends.

on the federal grand Jury.
Mrs. Winstock and son, Preston, ana'

ing friends in the city for a few days.

Silverton,'. July 13 The logan
berry harvest has commenced in Dr
' Keene'a big yard near here and a
"large corps of pickers are taking
'-are of the crop. The harvest Is go
ring to be very light this season. Dr.
' Keene has sold his berries to W. L.

for the Albany cannery.

confined to his bed. It Is said that

Willamette Valley Lumber companys
mill 1b still burning but only the
heavy timbers and the foundation of
the mill remain to burn out. There
Is little danger . of the fire spread
ing, at this time. Crews of men are
on the watch day and night and it
will only be a few days until these
crews can be dispensed with. The
estimated loss of three hundred thou
sand dollars has been reduced since
the invoice has been taken of ma
terials which were destroyed by the
fire, to a total loss of one hundred
and fifty thousand dollars. The plant
was fairly well covered by insurance
and the work of rebuilding will be
gin according to authentic reports
as soon as the Insurance is adjusted
and the burning embers permit. On
ly a few trucks which were used for
transferring lumber about the yard
and a few thousand feet of lumber
were lost. The boilers of the mill were
not materially damaged and cannot
be considered a loss. Most all of the
mill hands will be employed in re
construction and, at the present time,
in cleaning up the debris. The log
ging operations In the logging camps
from where the mill got its, supply
of logs will not be discontinued but
kept operating at full capacity,. This
light plant, which Is adjoining the
mill, depends upon the fuel from the
fuel from the mill to furnish heat for
propelling their plant. This at first

Farmhouse Near
x Aurora Burned
Aurora, Or., July 13. The house on
the Lew Prahl farm near here, which
was occupied by Mrs. Mclnness, was
consumed by fire early Wednesday
morning, together with most of the
contents. The origin of the fire is un
known. The alarm was given through
the Aurora telephone office and many
citizens along the line rushed to the
scene of the conflagration, but were
unable to render much assitsance. The
entire upper part of the house was
enveloped In flames before the fire
was discovered, and although many
led by her friend, Miss Myrtle Davis , people responded to the call, little as"

The city council ordered repairs to
be made on the drinking fountain in
front of the court house. This foun
tain, the gift of the W. C. T. U. to
the city, has been out of commission
for more than a year. It is expected
to nave it in working order for chau
